With the exception of the Fish Grotto, every "gay" bar in Portland that I've been to had more straight people than gay. No, they all weren't dudes dressed as women, lol. The "straight" clubs downtown would all close at 2:30am, but the "gay" clubs would stay open to 4 or 5am. If you were too drunk to drive or just still wanted to party you either went to a "gay" club or to QP in NW Portland. (Mmmm... Quality Pie was the bomb at 3am, it was like the Hotcake House on Powell but besides 24hr breakfast they had awesome desserts.) After 2:30am the "Gay" clubs were always filled with hot drunk chicks. If some of you were really the lady hunters you claim to be you should know this. And I don't know what it's like today but Embers just said they were a gay bar, it was nothing more than a front for downtown's biggest drug market.
