I like Walton, but think his age and health would prevent him from traveling with the team for 41 games a year. Brent Barry is in my top 3, and Webber is another I could live with. I don't want someone to describe what I just saw. Calabro will do that with his call in real time. I want someone to explain what's going on behind what's happening on the court. Give me the insight you have as a former player or coach. BNM
I have to respectfully say FUCK NO to this idea. Setting aside the fact that Roy was a turncoat traitor, and a sniveling me-first diva in much the same way LA was, his voice would be AWFUL to listen to.
Humor is very subjective. Even successful professional comedians turn off a large percentage of their audience. Hard to please everyone. For example I do not think Jay Bilas is humorous in any way, shape, or form. Walton I like in very very small doses. I do like Brent Barry though, just don't find him funny. But he seems to be someone most people here would be good with.
Then while I do want someone humorous, YOU don't. Cool. What I think is boring as fuck, others might enjoy.
I don't want them to be trying to be funny all the time but if they have a natural light humor about them and can see the not-so-serious side of sports, that seems to fit well.
As Pinwwheel1 stated, humor is very subjective. Even two posters who both want someone funny may totally disagree on who that should be. Bill Walton cracks me up, but he annoys the fuck out of others. To each his own. And since humor is so subjective, competent, knowledgeable, articulate and professional all trump funny on my wish list, but if we can get someone who meets those goals and they also injects a little lighthearted humor into the broadcasts, all the better. BNM
Exactly these. No one thing to pinpoint. I just know Calabro from the Sonics days and he is very animated, so I think a leveling of the broadcasting ride would be needed and that would be Smiths mundane voice. I think they would make a perfect pair. Id be totally happy with Brent Barry too. But I think Smith will add a bit more knowledge.
If Mychal Thompson said the right things, about wanting to come back to Portland and this being the right opportunity, he'd be perfect. Knowledgeable, light hearted, former Blazer
Unfortunately he has a premadonna smuggy goodie two shoes for a son and that would not work. What will Michael do when we are whooping his sons' teams ass up and down the court next year?
Every time we play the Warriors we will have to hear him talk about how amazing his son is...NOT NO, BUT HELL NO
