I know you've been a big Jeremy Lamb fan going all the way back to the 2012 draft, but he really hasn't amounted to much and hasn't found a role on either team he's played for. Two years ago, when OKC had a ton of injuries and needed scoring, they inserted Lamb into the starting line up and he played so poorly and inconsistently he landed in Scott Brooks' doghouse and was buried deep on the bench, behind D-League call ups and 10-day contract players for the rest of the season. In mid-November he was starter. After mid-December, he hardly played for the rest of the season.

His poor work ethic has been sited repeatedly for his lack of consistent playing time. So, maybe it's Damian Lillard's leadership he needs more than Terry Stotts' system. If we get him, we get him, but it's not a needle mover and he'll only come as part of a package that hopefully gets us something else worthwhile. CHO is basically using the 22nd pick to foist him off on someone else. That shows you how much they think of him.

I agree. Just saying he would likely improve in our offense

Hawes is an enigma. He was great in both PHI and CLE. Then he absolutely sucked balls in LAC and has been decent, but not great, in CHO. Neil offered him the MLE and he turned us down to take the exact same offer from LAC. Hey thought they had a better chance of winning and going deep in the playoffs. He was right, at the time. But, for whatever reason he was just a horrible fit in LAC and played like absolute shit. I do think that has something to do with Doc's offense. He doesn't seem to be a fan of bigs shooting 3s, and J.J. Reddick is the only Clipper that consistently shoots 3-pointers at above the league average. Even CP3 and Crawford are usually below the league average for 3FG%.

Hawes would have probably been a better fit in POR, but it's not like Olshey was willing to overpay him. The contract he signed was very reasonable and very tradeable. It doesn't even hit $6 million until the final year of the contract, which is a player option that he'll probably opt out of. So, it's not like we dodged a bullet when he chose LAC over us.

Agree. I've never seen Hawes as a mistake target. Even when he was playing terribly in LAC, I was firmly of the opinion that it was the system, not the player. I have no doubt that he'd be able very competent in Stotts' offense.

Hard to say. Yes, Stott's has a superior offensive scheme, but the questionable work ethic makes me wonder if Lamb would be able to take advantage of the opportunity. Brooks gave him an opportunity to start in OKC and he fell flat on his face. He lost his starting to Andre Roberson, a D-League call up who averaged 6.4 ppg, at a time when Durant was injured and they desperately needed scoring.

    Damn, Indy doing work.

    Teague-Monta-PG-Thad-Turner

That wins you about 50 games if healthy and they mesh well.

Goes without saying. But that's a good looking roster Larry is building.

Too bad he has Nate running it.

Thaddeus Young is good value for the 20th pick, particularly with his reasonable contract in new cap era.

Pacers problem is now Ellis. They need a 2-way player at SG and Monta isn't that guy.

It's too bad they don't have the juice to get Butler from Chicago.

    Teague
    Butler
    PG
    Thad
    Turner

That would be a damn good lineup.

Courtney lee would be a decent fit.

If they could convince ellis to come off the bench and still play 30 mpg. Then he could play hero ball at times with the 2nd string

Hendo, and move Ellis to the Vinnie Johnson role.

Lee or Hendo would really elevate them. Man, the Pacers are looking nice as Turner continues to develop. Doesn't scare the Cavs, but it should scare the Raps.

I've always liked Thad Young for a Blazer PF in the post-LA era. Now that he's off the market, maybe Neil sees if he can pry Taj Gibson away from the Bulls as they clean house a bit?

I like Jeff Green from the Clippers. He's incosistent but i like his talent, very athletic but also plays with the flow of the game. A bit like Batum though not as smart

OK, the draft is over. Time to look again at what would happen if we signed a max free agent or two. Durant and Horford are max 30% guys so I think their max salaries would be about 26 million. Whiteside is a max 25% guy so his would be about 21.5 million.
To sign Whiteside we could keep almost everyone; just dump Kaman, Henderson and Roberts.

To get Horford or Durant we would just need to jettison the three guys on the bottom of the roster, Connaughton, Alexander and Montero. Would be about $400,000 short but I think if one really wanted to come here that he would not quibble.

Now, to get Whiteside and one of the other two, this is more difficult. To do this one, you could bring Connaughton back, but now you would need to get rid of Leonard, Davis and Harkless. So you would have Lillard, McCollum, Aminu, Plumlee, Connaughton and Crabbe. So you would be OK on guards and both Crabbe and Connaughton should be able to play some SF. I don't really think Durant would be coming here so you would have Horford and Whiteside and Plumlee rotating with Aminu able to play some PF besides SF. You would have seven spots to fill with bit players.

It sounds like we will be going after Whiteside the hardest and he may be the only one attainable of the three. (I'm wondering if he might prefer to be with a bunch of young guys instead of the "parental" types on the Heat? And I wonder what he thought about some of the stuff that Lebron said about Heat people after he won the championship.) Looking at all the other free agents, the only one who really interested me was Ian Mahimni but he would seem to be superfluous with Whiteside. Others like Marvin Williams or Ryan Anderson would not seem to be much of an improvement over what we have and we would need to jettison good players to get them. I would probably just try to get some guy like Jerryd Bayless on the MLE once we are over the cap. Although it sounds like Spenser Hawes would come cheap, especially if Leonard got too expensive.

With SAC having approx 8 guys who can play C, I'm guessing they're gonna make some moves.

Cuz is prolly out of our reach and they prolly want to keep him to draw new season ticket holders with the new arena. But if they're selling dudes, then WCS is HIGH on my list. That guy is going to be a beast and they most likely don't even realize it yet.
