Austin has said that he is not close with his dad at all and it doesn't seem like Doc treats him differently than any other player.
He's a different player now than he ever was when he was in Portland. His usage percentage is at it's lowest of his career, and his TS% is at its highest. Also, his shots blocked percentage is around half of what it was when he was here, probably because 84% of his shots were jumpshots last year. Players evolve--evaluations thereof should too. Bayless has grown into a capable backup PG.
Other than giving Austin playing time when other coaches didn't. Doc might not be a great x and o's coach (or maybe he is, I don't really know) but I will say his teams always play tough D. Austin did not seem to play any D before he got there. I think Doc made him a better player. Maybe you are right, it is tough to play for your dad. Austin might be happy to leave, but the grass is not always greener. And since he has been with the Clipps, his career has taken off.
He averaged more minutes with New Orleans than he does with the Clippers... I think Rivers just wasn't ready right out of college and has gotten better as a player. It doesn't have much to do with his dad. Except maybe his defense.
I went on record as wanting him with our 2nd pick in that draft. And took shit for it. And I agree he was young and needed more time to develop before everyone buried him, but it just was not happening in N.O. (No the minutes, but the development)
Would actually love to see Rivers play here. Can you imagine playing the Clippers? Doc's harsh voice. "Ref..... that's clear path!" "STUFF IT DAD!"
Brad TurnerVerified account@BA_Turner Austin Rivers has meetings set with New York and Portland, per source.
Once this came out I felt bad for the kid and came to like him for the very first time (especially after seeing how his game evolved in the playoffs). Doc is a POS.
Not really. Rivers will not be getting a huge deal and he is probably seen as a cheaper back up for CJ and Dame.
My "guess" is fall back plan when Parsons and Howard say no. Enter Rivers and Aldrich. Lillard/McCollum/Harkless/Leonar_/Al_rich Apparently Neil wants me to kill myself
