That's because it was God's followers who used to burn them to death. Hence the word "faggot". A faggot is simply a bundle of sticks.

Actually, they are as Christian as anyone else. You and others want to distance yourselves from undesirable Christians is really what is happening.

If an atheist SJW who makes my group look bad, in MY opinion, by using the atheism platform to further their variation of atheism, I might want to call them not a real atheist because atheism isn't preaching that black lives matter or some feminist cause. They are doing whatever they want with their agenda and using atheism to further that agenda.

As long as they accept that there is no proof a god or gods exist, more or less, then they are atheist and there is no basis for me to call them not a real atheist just because I don't want to be associated with them.

If a christian accepts Jesus into his heart and believes he is a christian then he is a real Christian. If they commit a sin are they now all of a sudden no longer Christians? Everybody "sins" or makes a mistake, so are we going to say every sinner or christian ignorant of what you consider perfect christian actions is not a Real Christian? When does the non-Real Christian sinner get his Real prefix reattached? When they breakup with and stop lusting after a neighbors wife, in the case of the sinner, or when they no longer protest at Pride events saying God hates fags?

Just throwing this argument out there to see where my thinking is wrong. I hope someone can make a clear case for demoting these Christians they don't like to being called not Real Christians, because I hear it all the time and the argument they use to defend it is always the same. Jesus didn't preach hate or the like. To me, that seems like a cop out, but maybe I'm seeing this wrong.

(Of course I am not implying that atheism is a religion, so please don't start with that.)

(Don't bother to break down the logic of the atheist example since it was illustrative and not necessarily a perfect 1 to 1 analogy with christianity.)

Is it that hard to form a cogent argument?

Don't you want to embrace thinking for yourself and understand why you hold certain opinions; to know that you have tried your best to weigh the evidence fairly so you can be confident you are going down the right path in life for yourself?

It seems to me that you, MarAzul, are a pretty cool guy. I think your boat knowledge is awesome and I have no issue with giving any comment of yours a like when I feel it deserves it. Could you at least give the courtesy of addressing my question with the level of fairness it deserves? Just because I don't want to believe in a savior or higher powers doesn't mean my argument is wrong or biased. Christians as well have similar thoughts running through their heads and they try to reconcile them through discussion, reflection, prayer or ignoring them entirely. Is that why you are ignoring my question now?

Please pardon my diving to that conclusion if you are currently writing a response or intend to, and your "Yep" comment was merely a first shot across the bow! (See what I did there? Just for you my seafaring friend!) :)

Well I have no interest in trying to make you believe in savior. Heck, I don't either. I suppose it is fair to say I am more or less a Pantheist and since that is not a religion with a set of moral behavior, I chose to also take the Christian religions teaching in that area. I think it is good. Beside it would work best if we all lived in this society sharing a common set of morality.

With that said, just because some want to be Christians don't really understand the teaching of Jesus, does not mean you or anyone else should blame Christians for their failings. Sure it is fair to say those that do not act as if they do not know the teaching of Jesus, are not really Christians. It seems quite obvious to me, and rather silly to suggest otherwise. But then if I follow your logic, I have the right to do this because I am not a Christian, I don't believe Jesus was God, a dang good teacher though.

You are asking very complicated theological questions and I'm definitely not a Bible scholar so I'll give you my imperfect human answer. The biggest issue I have with calling them Christians is that they're only using verses for arguments from the Hebrew Bible written before Christ and are completely ignoring the new covenant.

You are asking great questions very respectfully! I can see a genuine interest and if you're okay with me believing in something supernatural I'm happy to talk about it and hopefully we won't start a religious war on the OT section and break the internet. Where else would I go for my Blazer fix in the off season?

Thank you for the compliment. I would love to discuss this more. Is there a way to leave private messages on this board? This topic appears to be of more interest to us than anyone else.

If you would rather keep it open to others to chime in I'm fine with that.

I will refrain from intentionally being a jerk, but I might say something that comes across as offensive since I don't feel any topic is above intense scrutiny and/or ridicule. That applies to topics and things I find most important in life, so at least I'm fair on that point.

So, please let me know where you would like to continue the conversation.

    Cheers
