My sense about Turner is that he was 2nd pick in what was then considered a not very deep draft. He hasn't lived up to being a #2 pick, in general, but he's obviously a quality NBA player; he contributed 28 MPG for a 48 win Celtics team. He was billed as Iggy lite, which isn't all that inaccurate. Iggy isn't a world beater as a 3pt shooter, either.

When Turner has taken 125+ 3pt attempts, his 3pt shooting % isn't too bad at all.

I disagree that he needs to dominate the ball to be effective. After watching Luol Deng find ways to score as an afterthought in the Bulls' offense, I can see Turner getting his by taking the open drive or shot when it's there for him. Realize if opposition is trapping Dame and CJ, the lane isn't going to be packed, leaving opportunity to slash for Turner's wheelhouse kind of scoring. Unlike Deng, Turner can dribble without looking at his feet, head down. And he's a gifted passer, so he's going to find the open man.

In the playoffs, Dame and CJ would stop scoring for minutes at a time. The defense keyed on them, they were tired, etc. We had no other guy we could rely on to get us a desperately needed basket. Turner is that guy.

(Looking at the draft with hindsight, it was about 15 deep and some really good players. I'm talking about at the time, Turner was considered the BPA at 2).

Mind would be blown if this was true. Sadly at the moment, its not though. Turner hasnt proven this.

Again, I've never heard that. Can somebody provide info/source to back that up?

I wouldn't dismiss Turner completely. I suspect Stotts' system will make him look a little better than he ever has before, but a career 12 PER player becoming a key offensive linchpin for a team with dreams of contending for a title sure feels like a longshot.

Evan Turner, though, remains one of the most consistent Celtics in crunch time, especially with the ball in his hands. The swingman came off the bench with 20 points against the Lakers, was part of the rotation charged with guarding Kobe Bryant, and nearly salvaged the night with an 11-point fourth quarter.

    D'oh?

He's a 3rd option. He had a 13.6 PER last season, which was better than Crabbe, Aminu, Harkless, or Henderson.

Whatever denny. I didnt say he didnt have clutch moments. Go read boston forums, they say this dude turns the ball over at the most inopportune times and that brad stevens was a wizard in getting this guy to be anything last year.

You said he can be a guy that can go get us a basket when we need it. Ill believe it when i see it. Therw were times when batum could go get us a basket when we needed it too, and then there were plenty of times when he couldnt. Thats what i expect from turner until he proves otherwise

OK, so I guess he might become our (very) poor man's version of Draymond Green (minus the three point shooting, insane motor, and ability to defend at the same level). I'm not panning the guy, I'm still just really struggling to see how this is supposed to play out in terms of matching up against the 800 lb. gorilla in the East Bay.

I like the thought of reading another team's forums to gain an opinion on the guy. If that was the case, everyone would read this placce and assume Dame, CJ, are inconsistent crap we'd ship for help, Stotts is in over his head, and Neil is a thumb twiddler.

:smiley-nope: its all about perspective and the truth lies somewhere in between.

Dame, cj, neil and stotts have all deserved criticism at times. Doesnt mean they arent all good too.
