This is absurd! Why would anyone pay Iran a damn thing? A debt that is 37 years old? I would suspect that the debt Iran owes for trashing the US Embassy and reparations to the Hostages they held for 2 years would far exceed this payment.

This is exactly why Obama/Kerry/Clinton belong on the top of the fool list of all time. Iran takes some US sailor hostage and we settle a 37 year old debt they claim!
    WTF?!?!?

The real story here is why the hell did we let them take the sailor hostage? Why the hell wasn't support sent, like a Destroyer to protect those boats?
Sound like some more idiotic misuse of our serviceman, this is beyond a brain fart by the CIC

It's what happens when you remove sanctions...Iranians also heavily invested in our Midwestern farming industry in the 70s as well. We armed Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden under Reagan to go to war with Iran back then. We rebuilt a lot of Germany and Japan after WWII as well. We're not at war with Iran. To patch up diplomatic ties with them is what we should be doing. Iran is a country with most of the population under 30 years of age...the old guard there is dying off..young people there want change. I had a student in Taiwan from Iran who talked to me at length about the desire for young Iranians to change into a true democracy...he was married to a Taiwanese girl who was Buddhist...drank like a fish, loved to party and was a nice guy...said his friends all flew to Dubai to party away from the Iranian fundamentalist leaders..Iran is on the verge of a major cultural change.

Wouderful. But the leaders run the country. They had the sailor taken hostage not the bright young hopefuls you feel so genuinely about. We should not have let them do it. That most certainly in not the time to pay off a 37 year old debt no matter how good it feels to the brainless wishing for world piece.

When the people of Iran force their nation into the modern era, then perhaps we could properly settle old debts, including the cost of the Embassy, and the damages to the hostages held for years.

Several more hostages have been taken now, since this payment and release. Imagine that! Muslims all over the world have been taking hostages to ransom for centuries. It is damn well time that we recognized this fact, not much wrong with holding a kaffirs for ransom.

Nobody said there weren't bad people in Iran....Iranians will tell you that but what I feel genuinely about is not issue here. I want young people in the middle east to cast off the blood feuds and fundamentalist human rights violations..it has to start somewhere. We've blown up plenty of shit we never pay for...that's just a double standard...we've got our share of fucked up criminals and discontented people.

Ross Perot got his own people out of Iran without assistance from the Carter administration. I respect him for that

National Council of Resistance of Iran – Young Iranians who are fed up with the theocratic dictatorship in power in Iran are yearning for change, Baroness Betty Boothroyd, the former Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom has said.

“The nuclear agreement with Iran does nothing to improve its appalling civil and human rights record. There’s nothing in it that seeks to persuade the regressive regime to change, to look at itself, to improve its approach to the democratic process, the rule of law and to human rights. Nothing at all,” Baroness Boothroyd said at a conference on human rights in Iran at the Houses of Parliament on October 19.

“I happen to believe, and I have some evidence of it, that Iran’s secular middle class want democracy, they have a yearning for some change, and they want to see progress, prosperity and be a properly accepted member of the international community. And I believe too that young people want to see change.”

Baroness Boothroyd said the Iranian regime is denying the people of Iran their basic human rights.

“Forty years ago, I wore the black sash of the anti-apartheid movement, when most people had no human rights under South Africa’s racist regime. And while I was parading outside South Africa House, with my black sash on and the policeman keeping an eye on me, I never expected to in my wildest dreams, to welcome Nelson Mandela to my country, as democratic leader of South Africa, when I was speaker of the Commons”, Baroness Boothroyd said.

“This only happened because defiant, determined and dedicated people in South Africa and elsewhere proved to the White supremacists that they were not immune to the forces of change. And I think it’s in that spirit of defiance, I believe that Iran’s theocracy is not immune to them now,” she added.

Former UK House of Commons speaker Baroness Boothroyd and a delegation of British lawmakers on January 27, 2014 met and held talks with the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance Maryam Rajavi during their visit to the headquarters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in Auvers-sur-Oise, north of Paris.

The high-level delegation of British lawmakers called for a full United Nations investigation into the September 1, 2013 Camp Ashraf massacre and urgent UN protection for thousands of members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, or MEK) in Camp Liberty, Iraq.

The British lawmakers described the Iranian regime’s interference in the region, especially in Iraq and Syria, as ‘dangerous’ and backed Mrs Rajavi’s proposal that a complete halt to the Iranian regime’s meddling in Syria is the sole solution to this crisis.

They expressed full support for Mrs Rajavi’s 10-point plan for the future of Iran as the best guarantee for democracy and human rights as well as peace and tranquility in the region and the world.

    That's just outright wrong.

The government writes a massive number of checks, all been paid. A billion a year for medicare alone.

Yes, Trump is saying he saw shiny perfect video of the money being offloaded in Iran. Except no such video exists. He said it in Florida, his campaign office agreed that was a mistake, he said it again in Maine. Trump said it. Therefore it's true.

I had a coworker like that. She'd scream and scream and scream over nothing, call people ugly name, use personal insults, make bizarre and unfounded accusations against others, contradict what she'd said the day before, insist SHE was the victim although while Trump says everyone loves him this woman was always saying no one loved her, everyone was so loved except her. At least that was true.

    That's pretty obvious.
The bigger question is why did Hillary deny extra security that was requested.

It's widely known it was Islamic terrorists who stormed the embassy. But it's hard to believe our own government is telling the truth about much when they lied about it for weeks afterward. They lied even though everyone knew they were lying even.

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/aug/3/medias-lives-double-standards-accelerate/

Witness the tale of three parents that emerged during the course of the Republican and Democratic conventions. On the first evening of the Republican convention, Patricia Smith spoke lovingly about her son Sean, who was one of four Americans killed in the Islamic terror attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. She reminded the world of the kind of man Sean was — a decent, hardworking patriot who chose to serve his country in one of the most dangerous places on earth.

She then directed her wrath at Hillary Clinton, who, as secretary of state, was directly responsible for the security in Benghazi before and during the attack — and for what happened in its aftermath. Mrs. Smith again accused Mrs. Clinton of lying to her face as her son lay just feet away in a flag-draped casket: “In an email to her daughter shortly after the attack, Hillary Clinton blamed it on terrorism,” she said. “But when I saw Hillary Clinton at Sean’s coffin ceremony, just days later, she looked me squarely in the eye and told me a video was responsible. Since then, I have repeatedly asked Hillary Clinton to explain to me the real reason why my son is dead. I’m still waiting.”

Asked recently about Mrs. Smith’s charge, Mrs. Clinton insinuated that the “grieving” mother’s memory must have been faulty, as if her lies were Mrs. Smith’s fault.

    (what a bitch!)

I read this article and it has no substance....pure spin...nice piece of fiction ..if you click the other headlines in the toolbar it's all pro Trump...the modern candidate I think they called him. Again Denny...Benghazi was a fuck up...I don't argue that but it's not that uncommon for strategists and diplomats to fuck up..you act so surprised...I'm not shocked at all....
