Nice one! I also see that you're a connoisseur of fine wines, like me. I can tell by your cork screw selection.... 0727161205.jpg

Talking about fishing is way more fun than talking about Trump. Any suggestions for a spinning reel that doesn't cost a fortune?...I heard the Mitchell 300 is good...I need a new rod and reel.

My humor aimed at myself kinda missed on that one. Anymore, my idea of a fine wine is a 4 dollar one from Grocery Outlet.... :) Back to your fish story!

I find good reds from Australia, Chile, South Africa, Slovenia..etc for under 4 bucks a bottle all the time. I like Pinot Noirs from the northwest a lot.

Mitchell 300? Man do they even make those any more? They were the real deal about 60 years ago, and I still have a couple.
A guy gave me one for guiding him steelhead fishing on the North Santiam, just about 62 years ago. The dang things were real expensive back then, like 25 bucks. I was pleased as can be to get one. I suppose he knew it would work.

As far as Trump is concerned, you don't need to like him, he will need to earn that step. The only Presidents I ever "liked" before
I voted for them was JFK and RR. Only three I didn't like before they became president, Nixon, Carter, Obama. so no votes there.
I didn't like Johnson but I didn't know it until he made me aware of how bad he was. Never got to vote for or against Eisenhower
but he would have been on the no no list. Far too frivolous with sending guys into harms way.

Ha! I always associate Johnson with the Gulf of Tonkin incident. One of the destroyers that supposedly was attack in that incident
was of the same class I served on as Main Battery Fire control. That story just didn't smell right at all. My first thought was,
WTF? That had to be a hoot, having torpedo boats attacking a destroyer! Main Battery firing practice, no contest, show over in seconds. Bull Shit, just like the video that kicked off Benghazi.

Johnson is long gone but the lady that come up with the bull shit about Benghazi is still bull shitting. One destroyer dispatched to the gulf of Sidra at flank speed could have saved the day. She didn't do it, She didn't even try. That is criminal ineptitude.

Edit. $25 was expensive. My one bedroom house I rented cost me $6 a month.

Where do you normally buy your wine at? Sounds like there's a really good selection....

anywhere really, I found good Slovenian Cabs and Chilean Cabs in Bimart, Fred Meyers...lots of places. They seem to buy test cases and they come and go so you need to be there when there are some in stock.

I saw a video of one on youtube and it was built like a tank...all non corrosive metal inside and out...looked like it could take a beating. I guess they still make them. I don't mind a little extra weight when casting.
As to the Gulf of Tonkin...we blew a fishing boat loaded with explosives out of the water once...it was unmanned but loaded to the gills with powder. I ran communications teletype style back then....people don't realize that mistakes are made everyday in the military...sometimes innocents die because of it. They used to call it collateral damage. If you're off target at all with big guns you can easily wipe out a small civilian fishing village when aiming for the enemy...the public would never know when shit like this happens...now with the internet everything is recorded and endlessly explained. Benghazi is no different from many, many missed calculations in war...you know that I'm sure. The last candidate I really wanted was George McGovern...since then it's been ugly

This should be a sticky. No irrational discussions about politics, LGBTQ, race, terrorism, or leo issues...

"Rivermans OT, OT thread". Fishing, old sea/war stories, best wines.... No arguements, about anything, you know...

Ok, you two called him out. You gotta give him credit for the pic. Sure, it could be a stuffed one. Either way, it's a nice one.....

I still haven't seen his fishing license. I suspect it's from Kenya.

I'll produce it after the elections but you must fund my charity for a peek...1.4 million dollars and it comes with a tv dinner on my deck with free parking for half an hour

Sounds like a nice, relaxing evening. I have yet to go this year, but I'm pretty excited. State fair is almost here..... 7.jpg
