Thinking of a trip to TN, its an option for November trip with an out of the country cousin who is visiting America. Was thinking of this: Fly into Nashville on a Thursday. Stay until Saturday. Take a Greyhound to Memphis on Saturday and Stay until Monday. Rental car may add $30 a night for the hotel, I figure we can just take the Greyhound and use Uber in town? Is Nashville and Memphis a good time? Any tips?
Nashville was fucking awesome back when I was stationed at Ft. Campbell back in the late 80s., and everyone I know who has been there ever since (as recently as this year's CMA music festival) has emphatically agreed with me. Gotta check out Printer's Alley, if only just walking through and gawking...
Reschedule. "Memphis in May" is amazing. Beale Street had awesome night life, if you're into live music. Been quite a few years since I've been there though....
Yeah, but my cousin is only here in November. We'd do Hawaii but its pretty expensive and I've been there a ton of times. Miami might be ok but Tennessee sounds better. Off season is probably cheaper too. Austin is another options but hotels look expensive and there's no uber in Austin. NY is another option but hotels are $250+ a night + its election weekend so worried about a terraist attack
You can't go too wrong with Memphis. I lived there for a year. Lots to do, and great music. You know, you could always drive down to Tijuanna....
Found that album (3 Year, 2month.....) at the Goodwill and have it permanently stuck in my car stereo! It's such a great record but seems to get short changed as a classic album. I don't think there is a bad track on it. I change between that, The Coup's "Steal This Album" or some Kendrick Lamar as far as hip hop goes.
Yeah, I bought it when it came out when I was in 5th grade or so. It still holds strong and has a lot more staying power than people think. That and the Digable Planets album that came out around the same time. Classics.
Digable Planets..... wow. Haven't heard them in ages! Now I have another album in my cue when I go to Second Avenue.
Wow, oddly enough I just got back from happy hour at McMenamin's and our server recently moved here from Memphis. As I plan to pass through there next spring, I asked him to make some recommendations. For BBQ he recommended several places, but the one I remember is the Rendezvous. Apparently that's one of the more well known BBQ joints. He also recommended the Arcadia Restaurant. Said it was Elvis's "go to" breakfast place. He also said to make sure and visit what they call the South Main District (not too far from Beale St), but that both good food and good music was really easy to find pretty much all Over town. Not sure if this helps....
Yeah. The album Reachin' (A new refutation of time and space) came out in 93. It has held up really really well.
