Oregon State students to be forced to take course on "Social Justice"

Sure, but that's not what social pressure is telling kids as they graduate high school.

 

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on the idea of a large college. I will not fit in and I don't conform, I don't wanna have to take classes that force me to adjust papers to what the teachers agenda is. And I'm not smart enough to be in a STEM field I bet so, trade it will likely be.

 

Someone just told you something else....history doesn't have to repeat itself but to each his own...I loved school but got my degree long after high school

 

Use the internet...two of my coworkers got degrees online..didn't have any social commitments to do it

 

You still interact with the professors and other students, I've taken some before. If you want to be a complete social recluse that wouldn't work that well, although it's a lot better than being on campus.

Most of the other students taking the online classes, at least 4 years ago in the ones I was in, mainly seemed to be 30 plus or in the military so they aren't your typical crazy 19 year old with no life experience.

 

I do get what you are saying. I had a very different college experience from you. I went to a small liberal arts school for undergrad, but there were a lot of differing political beliefs and social beliefs. We did not have a lot of racial diversity. I really did not get exposed to as many ideas and beliefs in college as I would have liked in hindsight, but I was 18, what did I know?

 

People are also apathetic, like that recent racially abusive incident captured on Max where almost no one did anything to intervene. Perhaps a class like this helped those that did intervene feel empowered to do so. Perhaps if others had taken the class they would have felt empowered to speak. Not everything is a liberal conspiracy.

 

That video doesn't tell the whole story. I saw people who posted that the man is very clearly mentally disturbed and homeless. Apparently he's pretty well known in downtown Portland, and most people realize that he's not all there. There's little point in arguing with someone that's insane, and if you engage them you're only going to escalate the issue.

 

If you gave $5,730,000 in grants to OSU over a 4 year period, do you think you could influence the bias and agenda of their professors?

A well known foundation with a very clear agenda has done just that. Here is a list of grants given to OSU by the Packard foundation over a 4 year period.

OSU students and professors use the grants to conduct studies on how to “SAVE” the oceans. In every study, they find the best way to “SAVE” the ocean is to stop all fishing, which also happens to be the same agenda of the Packard foundation, stop all fishing.

However, now the Packard foundation has studies, which they funded, to support their agenda to stop all fishing. If they had used the same amount of money to find ways to “BALANCE” the ocean’s eco-system, the oceans would be in better shape.

This is the same Packard foundation that previously funded much of the program to shut down fishing along huge areas of the Oregon Coast. At first, the Oregon Governor went along with their program because it would not cost the state any money. Packard was footing the bill, but in return, would manage those areas. Then the Governor woke up and realized that with the strings attached to the funding, The Packard foundation would have total control over much of the Oregon Coastal waters, not the state.

Packard shifted their financial funding from the State politicians to the Universities. Packard is going after OSU to help them gain control over as much coast waters as possible. The Packard Foundation already controls a big chunk of CA coastal waters, and CA can not do anything about it (another reason the OR Gov backed out). Oh, and if a student does not agree with the findings of the OSU study to shut down fishing, his grades suffer. Now that is Bias by the bushel-full.


The OSU Bias Response Team is bullshit. They need a response team for the professors and Adm.

 

Your opinion only. And honestly what you said here in reply is a lot different than what you originally posted. College is different and means quite a few different things to many people. Trying to ram your beliefs down others throats is exactly what is wrong with today's university and society.

Or perhaps people want to mind their own fucking business sometimes and let others stand up for themselves. I didn't see the video but am offering an alternate POV. Not every single life situation needs a god damned baby sitter.

 

I grew up in the HVAC business. Shit wages unless you own the business. And cold winters can be a death march. There's a reason I went another direction. Just sayin'.........

I think if you watched the video you might think differently. It was nearly physical. The man was shouting racial epithets at the two women from a very short distance away. The man was a very large man. I wouldn't have been surprised if the man was close to physically assaulting the two women.

 

Average tuition and fees per year for in state college is $9,500. So that's almost $40,000 right there. Not to mention living expenses and probably not working enough to break even there.

 

They shouldn't force anyone to take that stupid class. Yeah, yeah, slavery, slavery and Jim Crow laws and blah blah blah blah blah. I think we all know the history. Black people are causing most of the racism in the US today, because they are the most racist race out there by far, and they keep stirring up animosity. I can see why employers would want to steer clear of someone who might sue for discrimination because they were fired or whatever for fucking up.

That's cool, I do, but we'll leave it at that. Either way, your take on College and its use to students isn't a be all end all reason for why they may choose to go. I certainly don't and didn't think that. My reasons were quite different for example.

Who cares if the man is big? Did he assault them? Was there a weapon? Until then, let people handle their own business sometimes, IMO. They can call the police/authorities. Until physical altercation takes place people really should "mind their own"; let people problem solve on their own. Obviously my stance changes if the aggressor has a weapon, or gets physical.
