Bullpen could come together quickly if they sign chapman back in free agency and this kid keller who is up now is the real deal. Austin should be up next year by allstar break at latest to take over left field. With bird coming back to play first next year austin could be odd man out unless he can adapt to 3rd. Starting pitching is the big problem to me. We have tanaka, unfortunately cc for another season, pineda (ugh), severino (who the hell knows whats going to happen with this kid) but at least worst scenario looks like a good option for the back of the bullpen. No starters available in free agency. SP is going to be the biggest challenge next year
...^^^ indeed, if not 2 or 3, .... with a good array of prospect talent now, I only hope the brass has the wisdom to put all the pieces together into one unit; cohesively enough to solve this jigsaw puzzle, apply it, and pen it: "The Plan-Revision VIII"
Regarding the bullpen > I was never anxious to trade Miller and would have preferred to keep him outright unless I was bowled over with an offer......I realize the Yanks were committed to "rebuilding" with youth and they did receive a good prospect late inning reliever Ben Heller in this trade, and also another "pretty good" AA reliever prospect J.P. Feyereisen along with a LHSP (AA) and Clint Frazier. Just like most trades of this nature it'll take a couple of years to get a good read and evaluation. But- prior to the deadline trades and after dumping Arod, the Yanks already had Judge, Sanchez, Austin, Gamel, Refsnydef, and even Mason Williams back in the mix and of course Bird going into next year....... .....I just can't resist thinking about what the Yanks' situation would NOW be, and NEXT season if they kept Miller with him being signed through 2017..... Have to believe the W-L record would currently be at least "a couple of games" better, and having Warren, Betances and Miller in the bullpen from day one in 2017 backing up the kids just might possibly, perhaps be the beginning of something good, sooner than expected with things falling into place for the Yanks with the kids coming along nicely. Oh well.....Let's just hope Judge, Sanchez and the rest of this crop continue to progress and ....and.....also being significant will be what type of players Gelbar Torres and Clint Frazier can become. These two -imo- will be kinda pivotal in determining how "successful" (or not) this rebuilding overhaul becomes.
No more off day for the old guy DH rotation. Get a full time DH. Need a LHP starter. Power at the corners. Did anyone mention rebuilding the bullpen?
