Amir Johnson and James Young would match closely enough. Just 5 more weeks until he's trade eligible.
No way in hell he gets traded. His value is soooooo shitty right now. That contract makes him worse then an injury prone player.
Boston, however, is the one team that might want him. An expiring contract and a bench scrub is a small price to pay for a guy they seem to miss badly.
This guy is a prophet! And, in six months, when he’s languishing on the bench of some other team while the Celtics don’t look like they miss him, I won’t say I told you so. I will just be happy that I don’t have to watch Evan Turner anymore.
I was worried a long time ago reading stuff out of Boston about Turner. Here is the problem in a nutshell: "He’s not fast enough to get to the rim consistently, so he settles for a steady diet of contested mid range jumpers. He doesn’t generate enough free throw attempts (he averaged an anemic 1.7 FTA/game). He’s a plodding dribbler with a tendency to turn it over (his turnover percentage last season was 19.7 percent), but since he’s not a good catch-and-shoot player, he needs the ball to be effective. He’s a good passer when he wants to be, but he also gets too focused on getting his own shots and often misses wide-open players standing in the corner as he tries to force it in the basket against a triple team. Worst of all, while he’s quite good at guarding the 1 and 2, who are consistently smaller than him, he can’t stay in front of faster players and he gets absolutely dominated by larger 3s."
He started his career a bust, it took him years to live up to being the 2nd pick. It's possible that it takes him a long time to get comfortable and being on a new team, in a new situation, with the burden of having to live up to the expectations of his new contract, maybe it makes him uneasy, could be his personality. But I still believe in him and would want us to stay patient, I think once he settles into his role could be a real fan favorite. I think he is a good fit with this team but if we're going to countdown to when he's eligible for a trade we'd miss out on him and wouldn't get anywhere near good value for him
Sadly, I'm afraid that may be the case. Now Portland has 2 backup SFs signed to the tune of over $140 million. Thank goodness Roy Hibbert got signed away somewhere else or Olshey would really be on a bad stretch with the bigger contracts. He's okay with getting the cheap guys no one else wants but the money offered to Hibbert, Turner, Crabbe, Leonard........DAMN!
Leonard signing is decent. However limit d he is, he still has a unique skillset that is in high demand, and in today's market value, it's a serviceable contract.
I say this in all seriousness: I think we need Lillard and CJ to go down with minor injuries for a little bit. Then we can hand the reins to Turner in extended minutes (and get Crabbe all the shots he wants and also expand Layman's minutes). We'd lose a lot, but as things are going we're going to be in the unhappy valley of losing just enough to scrape into the playoffs (and we can't hope that the team we face will have its two best players go down, and we've learned what they can do to us when they're healthy). Either Turner will continue to look awful, in which case we're fucked (but maybe Stotts will have the balls to give more minutes to Crabbe/Layman/Napier) or he'll look quite good, in which case HE'S TRADEABLE!
Megaboooooooooooooo!!!!!!! Where's the green font???? Man. Hoping our guys go down with injuries??? Go knock on wood. Minor can turn to major just like that!!!! Holy crap you should take that poop back!!!!!
I didn't wish for them to go down with injuries. I wished for their minutes to be freed up and thought of the least bad way that could happen. This is called the doctrine of double effect. (It's how Catholic Priests allow abortion to save the life of the mother.)
But Turner is not a guard (and neither is Crabbe), he's a SF. You can't expect him to play out of position and then get angry at him for disappointing
Harkless simply has taken the SF job. He beat out Turner and Crabbe. Turner will be fine in the long run. We need what he brings on the 2nd unit and in certain match ups. Stotts needs to use him a bit more effectively. That will come. Turner needs to fit into Stotts' system more effectively. That will come, too.
