I have been wanting to get McLemore for a couple years now. I think he could really revitalize his career in Portland, much like Harkless........ but then we're looking at a similar problem next summer when HE becomes a free agent.

Better to have 80% of our cap space used on those guys than 60% used with 40% unused.

Except if you'd like to retain Harkless and/or Plumlee. And what about when it's time to resign Aminu or Ed Davis? What if we want to keep one of them? Over spending will eventually come back to bite you. We pretty much had to do it this year to land Evan Turner, but we don't need to do it again with Crabbe....and they were getting Turner to be a starter. Crabbe is a bench player.

The "60% of our cap space is on the backcourt" argument is moot because we're over the cap and spending 120% of it.

So we're spending 60% on our backcourt and frontcourt...

Play out the the season (or half the season) and let the creme rise to the top. Keep the best and let the others go. Even if you get nothing in return, it would be the same as if you let them walk now.......

Those guys are on the team THIS season. We have no idea who we want to keep next summer. I'm quite satisfied to let NO figure it out - he's been downright awesome so far.

I didn't feel like starting another thread. But what in the hell happened to Allen Crabbe?

First and foremost, I will say I wanted Portland to match Brooklyn's offer, so I can't blame Neil Olshey for this one. Also, I'm aware that he could still be used in a trade after January 15th and, in general, it's never good to let assets walk for nothing.

However, with that all said, in a season of disappointments, he's got to be at the top of that list. Through 16 games, AC's averaging 9.4 points, on 43.8% shooting and 36.7% from 3, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in 28.9 minutes. Now his 2015-16 numbers aren't going to blow anyone away (10.3 points, 45.9% from the field, 39.4% from 3), but he's down in all major shooting categories and is doing so in more minutes this year.

I really hoped he would build on his solid postseason, especially against the Warriors, but he definitely looks like he hasn't taken that next step. I'm not putting all of the blame on him as I don't feel like we're using him correctly (we should be running him off screens like the Clippers do with Redick), but the bottom line is open shots aren't being made at a consistent rate for the caliber shooter that he is.

He reminds me of Martell Webster -- a player with all of the tools to be great but so inconsistent.

For $20 mill a year, over the next four, we gotta hope that AC (and Stotts) figure it out.

Nothing happened to him. He's just a solid bench player. Now he's a solid bench player who is being paid like a star because of Neil Olshey's stupidity.

A prudently run team cannot be petrified of "losing a bench player for nothing". Maybe you go 10% over what you think they're worth, maybe 20%, but Crabbe is making 2-3x what he's worth.

I didn't think he had any real potential to get better so I was always against matching the offer. He's a decent bench player, nothing more. The people here that thought he would be a 6th man of the year candidate make me laugh.

I went back and forth for a while but then wanted them to match. Seeing workout footage of crabbe putting the ball on the floor made me think he would take that next step, be able to create his own shot and put the ball on the floor. Well...he hasn't done any of that and is the same player as last season except less efficient. Plays pretty good defense even though I do think it's overrated defense. Spot up shooter, refuses to even attempt to create his own shot or when he does try it's a massive fail. Worst part is, nobody will take on this contract. It's obsurd at this point

Far and away this was the biggest blunder of the off season. The problem with convincing yourself that we're acquiring assets is that when you sign a bench player to a contract thats unreasonable IT IS NOT AN ASSET. We are stuck with allen crabbe now for the next 4 years better or worse, his contract is untradeable. NO ONE WANTS HIM FOR 21.5 MIL- NO ONE. Forget moving him in ANY trade what so ever. Thats the whole reason brooklyn offered him the type of deal he got in the first place it was because it was a TERRIBLE contract to match, and now we are reaping the rewards with the 2nd highest payroll in the NBA and a shitty ass team. Matching on a guy like allen crabbe is what shitty franchises do. So thanks for that.

Barring a blockbuster trade at the deadline NO deserves the boot he has fully fucked this franchise for the next decade.

If the Nets were willing to pay him that much before, they still are. In return, they could give us a worthless protected-55 pick. Let's see their future 2nd-round picks. Wow, they have a lot of bad ones.

I think that Crabbe will shoot better than he has, and we'll ease up on him. He's still overpaid, but we'll forget about it. As for defense, he's our only tall guard, unless you want to count Connaughton.

Why do you guys think Neil Olshey made the decision to match? Yes he's the GM I understand that but Neil doesn't own this team and for damn sure a decision like this is not decided by Olshey himself.

Maybe Olshey voted against re signing him. But instead the overall staff and OF COURSE Paul Allen wanted this.

Ah well, I'm actually excited for the lottery. Dame and Cj is still fairly young that a mini rebuild won't hurt. Trust me guys the lottery is the only way a team like ours gets better.

Remember Olshey is waaaaaaay better at drafting

Jeez dude, we were screwed either way, and without him we'd be even worse and still over the cap.
