Trump tweets you maybe should go to jail, be fined, or lose citizenship as a penalty for flag burning.

    What say you, Clinton supporters?

Not a Trump or Clinton supporter.

Flag burning has long been a principle of free speech. Any kind of penalty is ridiculous.

If you believe that government should honor the constitution, I don't see how you could favor curtailing free speech. Period.

Will be tied up in court given Texas v Johnson. Maybe Trump should focus on real issues that affect Americans? I have yet to hear of anyone harmed from flag burning. It sounds like he wants to suppress dissent. Why not jail people who use swastikas? Oh yeah the First Amendment.

I agree with this. At the same time, it's hard for me to have any pity for assholes like this:

    Who wrote this garbage:

I have zero pity for these people if they get arrested.

Perfect example of free speech. I don't see that he's done a thing wrong. His gripes are real and fair.

I accept that the Supreme Court has classified flag burning as "speech". I don't agree with them, but I accept it. If the justices were to overturn that ruling, I wouldn't complain. Personally, I would favor flag burning being a fineable offense. I think Trump's position as stated in his tweet is a bit overboard. However, as it currently stands, those tweets are simply his opinion, not a policy statement, so I don't see it as anything to get up in arms over.

Oh yes....I'm a Bisexual man who's homophobic. SlyPokerDog is a moron.

Bullshit, no they aren't. The media has blown this shit out of proportion. Everything they report today is exaggerated with race and gender.

This wasn't an issue under Clinton....nobody said anything about it under Bush....yet, 8 years of Obama have given us the most divided country since Jim Crow.

If you don't see the correlation, then I don't know what to tell you.

If you don't see the increase in welfare recipients, laws against gay people (e.g. North Carolina), murders of unarmed black men by police, etc., then I don't know what to tell you.

Jeez. Trump just lacks the focus needed for a president. Out of all the multitude of problems this country and the world have that need his attention, he wastes time on this kind of small ball crap? Man, it's going to be a loooooong four years.

    Under Obama, you mean.

One unenforced law giving private businesses the authority to request that people use the bathroom of the gender they were born with is not a "law against gay people". More overblown bullshit; the irony is that the law itself was overblown bullshit about something that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

You mean, officers who were cleared of wrong-doing by the courts and independent investigations?

That's not murder, it's Justifiable Homicide. Don't attack police officers, don't associate with criminals, don't do suspicious shit that draws attention to yourself (like pointing a realistic gun at people in a park.....), and don't fight with the police when they show up to arrest you, and you won't get shot.

Oh yeah....and don't commit crime. That's a surefire way to avoid the police.

Countless law-abiding black people wake up every day doing these simple things, and they live just fine. Unfortunately, a small minority of people in that community just can't obey the law and use common sense.

I have no pity or empathy for those that choose the hard way.

@e_blazer I wouldn't just lump Trump into this.

If you guys don't remember, or were not aware.... at the time Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Bob Bennett tried to introduce a bill called the "Flag Protection Act of 2005" , supporting penalties for flag burning with the primary purpose of intimidation or inciting immediate violence or for the act of terrorism. It called for a punishment of no more than one year in jail and a fine of $100,000.

At one time it seems like it was popular to be patriotic, and to support patriotism.

Now it's popular to ridicule and hate the country and anything to do with patriotism.

I miss the early 2000s. I miss the patriotism after 9/11, when the whole country, of all races and genders, came together to support and share the love of our country.

I miss that. I really do.

Yeah, America isn't America anymore really. The Liberal movement along with the fucked up (read: bought) media has made it a hate crime to be a nationalist with any form of patriotism.

I miss it too, but it's also why Trump won. Because people are fucking fed up w/this bullshit.

I for one support the flag burning act that Hillary Clinton advocated for in 2005, and Trump talks about now. But that's just me.

I wonder how many dipshit liberals out there will make excuses for their deity HRC who supported this bill back in 05.

    Wait, I'm confused
Yes, I read that same story on Fox after I made my post. It still doesn't change my opinion. When Clinton was involved in that bill, she was a senator and, as such, a part of the Legislative Branch of our government. Their job is to propose legislation so that it can be considered by both Houses and, if worthy, be presented to the president for his signature. That bill didn't go anywhere, probably because of the free speech implications, but at least Hillary was doing her job in proposing legislation. Trump's job is to run the Executive Branch of government. Sure, he can suggest bills that he thinks may be needed, but does anyone think that a flag-burning law is somehow necessary to the smooth operation of government?

I agree with you about the patriotism and HRC. But at the same time, I'm torn about flag burning itself.

I agree that it is a form of free speech and, while I strongly disagree with it, I believe that it should be protected, just as any other Constitutional Right should be.

But if a law was made that said it was illegal to burn it, I personally wouldn't lose sleep or shed a tear over the issue.

I just find it ironic she championed a bill that I am sure her supporters (who were likely too young back then to even remember how to tie their shoes) would absolutely detest her for and are likely the same ones blowing up Trump on Twitter. :)

Totally understand. I agree that it is free speech too, but when I say I am against it, I am against it when taken into consideration the language they used in 2005 ....

"....flag burning with the primary purpose of intimidation or inciting immediate violence or for the act of terrorism."
