Prob is Meyers is Meyers is an asset but he is a NEGATIVE asset given his horrible play and 40 mil 4 yr contract. We would have been better off letting him walk
That may be your opinion of him because of his play of late, but a 7-footer who has any talent at all on a $10 mil per year contract is a rarity in the NBA. There are a lot of teams that would take him in a trade.
You guys are fucking idiots. Biebs is a fantastic low post defender who gives the Gasols and Cousins' of the world a tough time. Last night he held Boogie to 55. Don't you guys feel stupid, now?
Leonard played 19 minutes because of foul trouble. Boogie played 41. I think a few of those points may have been scored against other players.
Take a minute and reread what you wrote. Does it really matter? Boogie scored those "extra" points precisely because Biebs was in foul trouble. Feel free to post the box score stats
The way Boogie was playing, I don't know if there's a player in the league that could have shut him down. I'm not going to try to make a case that Meyers can guard Cousins when he's playing at the top of his game, but he has had some success against him when Cousins is playing his regular game...and Meyers does seem to get into Boogie's head, which should have resulted in him being ejected last night if the refs had any balls.
Even IF he were a negative asset (he's not), we wouldn't be in a better position without him. If we hadn't signed him we wouldn't be able to sign someone else. In the worst case scenario we can just DNP-CD him from here to the end of his contract and he'd be a net-neutral. But at $10M per year, he has value - we can trade him to a team that has their own version of a Meyers (Monroe?*), and hope that the swap makes us better. Barring that, in Year 3 he becomes an expiring contract which - despite RLEC - can have value around the league. So no, Meyers is not a negative asset no matter how much you hate the guy. *I'm not advocating this, just using it as an example.
he's fuckin garbage. that position was one where we really needed some D, we must have know Festus was hit or miss on ever playing for us, and we dumped all our other cash into 2 people playing the same position and a 7-1 sg who played himself out of relevance in world record time and sucks mega balls on D. we did this to ourselves with these signings.
Going to have to disagree there. At this point we'd be selling ultra-low on him. I think the years remaining on his contract combined with his regression, yes regression, this season following his shoulder issues last year would scare off any potentially interested parties. Leonard is going to have to prove that he still has an NBA level skillset because right now it's not apparent. He's an overseas level guy right now with confidence issues and a moderately expensive contract. Hindsight being what it is, the time to trade Leonard was the summer of 2015. His value was high at that point and it should have been obvious to us even then that he was never going to be the banger/defender that we need from his position.
As I've said in other posts, Meyers' main value right now is as filler to make salaries match in a deal where the Blazers probably have to eat someone else's bad contract. From that standpoint, he's an asset and better than having no salary room to maneuver at all.
I absolutely agree with you, but..... Even a winning lottery ticket has no value until you actually redeem it. With the way he's playing, it could be argued that he has no value to the team right now.
Meyers is well on his way to becoming a contenders Matt Bonner or Brian Scalabrini...we should trade him to the Spurs or Celtics
I don't. Ezili would make a nice cap clearing move for some team that needs it (especially since his deal isn't guaranteed). Meyers still has multiple years left, so it's going to take a couple before he's a tasty expiring deal.
Maybe, but he's got three more years left on his contract so if a team thinks he's a chump then they're not going to be thrilled about having him on the books that long. That stymies his tradability. I can't imagine many teams remaining intrigued with his "potential", the guy is in his 5th season and is probably worse now than he was as a rookie.
His projected date to return from shoulder surgery was right about now, so you might want to factor that into your thoughts about how he's played so far this season.
I'm on record as having completely thrown in the towel with regards to Meyers. He's just never going to be what we need from that position and even at his best he projects to be a so-so, offensively oriented role player. I've been ready to move on from him for quite awhile now. I can appreciate that his shoulder could be factoring into his terrible offensive play this year, but the fact is that he's still suiting up and going out there every night, and his defense has been consistently terrible regardless. And if the shoulder is in fact an issue then I don't see how that plays into our favor when it comes to finding a trade partner for him.
