Maybe The HCP is an unrecognized genius. A visionary. Ahead of his time.

That's the exact kid of logic the Bulls used when they traded Elton Brand for the right to draft Tyson Chandler.

I don't think Chandler was even close to being as good as Brand.

22 PPG scorers who can pass and hit 43% of their 3pt shots are not easy to get.

I know we're not quite there yet...but this would be a really impressive feat if we could get the #1 pick while simultaneously having the league's highest payroll.

Say we get a top three pick, however unlikely..... we add an above average NBA starter to an extremely young team. Seems like a quick fix for a team without many options.
Can't say I'd hate this possibility.

No, but it wouldn't be a bad plan. And trading CJ foot those picks isn't "tanking".

It's also the same kind of logic as trading Monta Ellis then drafting Klay Thompson

Not quite... The Warriors already knew what they had in Thompson before trading Ellis. Ellis only played 37 games in 2011-12, so I'm assuming he must have been hurt, giving Thompson the chance to play and prove himself. Ellis traded to Dallas in March 2012, after the season.

Damn. They had two small point guards, and two tiny point guards. No wonder they got rid of monta.

They got Bogut and Stephen Jackson for him from Dallas. The Warriors then traded Jackson for TJ Ford, Richard Jeffersion, and a 1st round pick (Ezeli)

Not quite--Trade deadline was in March because of the lockout. Monta played 58 games total that season. Klay played every game for GS--37 of 38 as a reserve behind Monta (averaging 8 ppg in 17 mpg, shooting 46% form 3), and then started the final 28 after the trade.

Yeah, my bad. I must have been looking at Ellis' game log instead of the team's.

The point still stands. They knew what they had in Thompson before trading Ellis. They didn't trade Ellis with the hope of landing some draft pick who might do as well.

In Brand's case, he was a 20/10 guy from the start (with the Bulls). There just aren't that many 20/10 guys in the league (at the time specifically). To expect a guy with potential to actually match that 20/10 was a HUGE risk.

No doubt--Klay had shown early that he was a starting caliber player. The Monta trade was very low risk. We don't have anyone on our bench who has shown anything over their multi-year careers comparable to what Klay showed in his first 39 games in the league.

    Exactly.

The cavs traded a ridiculously great draft pick/prospect for Kevin Love. I don't think Minny did it for any reason other than they though they'd lose Love for nada, and he had made that clear.
