It's half-reporting. This is from a guy who flew up to POR for two days and came away realizing that not a single person with the team would open their mouths as to why the team is struggling. So he finds this nugget about Festus and makes it into a main point in his story-- he just downplayed the situation a bit in his interview. There is 0 mention of Festus having setbacks (which he did as reported by guys who actually cover the team on a daily basis), or seeking second opinions, etc etc. It's lazy reporting-- which is par for the course with Haynes. Baffling to me how he keeps getting these gigs. I swear, Will Barton made this guy's career with that one on one thing.
I was being facetious. OK, green font is for sarcasm. What's the standard font color for facetious? BNM
Hey, I already did that. Then I read the article and found that Chris is a much better writer now that he has the ESPN editors cleaning up after him.
The team has underreported on Ezeli though, and Stotts has even been quoted as saying he has no idea what's going on with Festus. There was also reports of him looking great in training camp from our guys. The "setback" was reported a month after it supposedly happened. This Festus thing makes no sense. It also scares me that Olshey might pass on improving the team because he doesn't want to risk adding a player who's not a golden child. There's a weird aura around this team right now.
I like that CJ told Ezeli to shut up. I've seen Ezeli on social media (specifically insta and snap) and he's always talking about "we gotta get this win" "gameday" "time to go on a run" etc etc. On one hand that's cool that he's all about the team or whatever, but on the other hand it's like dude, you're not out there playing, maybe stop talking so much?
I don't mind that stuff and neither should CJ. But he shouldn't be giving post game talks about playing with urgency.
Festus seems like a really good dude but shouldn't be giving pep talks. Dude isn't playing, he has no right to speak on a team he has never played on but is only a cheerleader on.
That's offensive to cheerleaders. Festus would look terrible in a skirt, and I seriously doubt that he can deliver a decent high kick.
Stotts isn't calling these guys out so why not Festus? Like it or not the guy is a World Champ. Nobody else on our team can say that. Really? The media is all about drama and not substance these days. Fits him to a T.
So it really does seem like Festus got the Blazers to give him a year of paid vacation: Get his body right with year off, get waived for non-performance this summer and go get another deal someplace he actually wants to play when his knee is as rested as it can get. Smart.
From what I've read, rehab is serious business and as much work as actually practicing and playing. You just don't get the reward of getting to play the game you love. I don't think this is the joyride for Ezeli that some of you seem to think.
Unless you are Greg oden balling at clubs every night. It's ridiculous how many people I know or who have talked to at the gym after a pick up game who tell me stories of them at clubs around that time and Oden just being fucking wild
I am trying to remember a pep talk from years past that made the news. Believe one of the players was kicking buckets of ice all over the locker room. Was the player Camby? Anyway, I believe it woke the team up, and they played better after that. Does anyone remember this pep talk, and how it went down?
I know someone who was friends with the cousin that used to live with Oden. Roy couldn't party with his Seattle friends at his house because his gf/wife didn't like them so he would tell his friends to drive down and meet at Oden's place. Oden had a penthouse w/ private elevator near downtown. Roy and his friends would trash Oden's place. Just have a great time. Then the last thing Roy and his friends would do was fuck up Oden's elevator so he'd have to take the stairs.
