I'm talking this season. Any trade for Bogut would have to be balanced enough, salary wise, to keep both us and DAL under the LT threshold THIS season.

What Bogut will, or won't sign from come July is only partially germane to this discussion, because...

    1) He will sign for less than Plumlee.

    2) Whoever we sign to play center for us will push us over the LT barrier - unless we make other moves to shed salary.

    3) We will have plenty of time to make other moves to shed salary, both during the summer and before the trade deadline in February 2018.

    4) Being over the LT threshold for one season, or even two years in a row, isn't really that onerous. It's when you get to the 3 times in 4 years repeater status that things get bad, and we'd have plenty of time to make adjustments before that ever happens.

I like Butler, He is a great 2-way player. I was all for doing whatever it would take to get him last July when there were rumors about the Bulls blowing it up. That was before they started talking to DWade and decided to give it one more try with old dudes before hitting the rebuild button.

As much as I love C.J., I'd move him if it got us Butler. Butler is two years older, but that puts him at only a year older than Dame. Like C.J., he has shown improvement every year he's been in the league. Like C.J., he's proven he can be a 20 ppg scorer as his team's second option playing next to a scoring PG. Unlike C.J. he's 6'7" and a great defender. There probably isn't a better player out there than Jimmy Butler, and I'm including Klay Thompson, to pair in our starting back court with Damian Lillard.

Butler is amazing but what you are stating is a package for a top 10 player. So I am going to disagree with that needed for Butler.

Doesn't matter though. If it is then it isn't going to happen from any team.

Are there 10 players better than Butler right now?

26 PER, great percentages, and great defense. I might stick him higher than Dame. I'd put him right up there with Kawhi and above PG.

He certainly could be. It gets pretty crowded after the top 4-5 so you could make a case for a few guys top 10 that might really be 12-15. What would that make CJ though? Top 15 if I am guessing? If so then at least 2 firsts and CJ and another player is a lot to go from top 15 to top 10. And I do love Butler as a player. I said even last year that he is one of the few guys I would deal CJ for.

Agreed. The guys is averaging 25.2 ppg on 17.2 FGA. C.J. is averaging 23.2 ppg on 18.0 FGA. As great as C.J. is offensively, Butler actually scores more and does so more efficiently. He is one of the few SG in the league that could easily replace C.J.'s scoring.

And then there is the other half of the game. No contest. Butler is annually in the discussion for All Defensive 1st or 2nd team.

He also averages 6.8 rpg and 4.5 apg (compared to 3.7 rpg and 3.7 apg for C.J.).

C.J., is great. Butler is greater. He is the kind of 2-way player you need to contend for championships.

The only reasons you don't do a C.J. plus whatever it takes not named Lillard for Butler trade are:

    1) Butler is 2 years older.

    2) Butler can't play PG. So, we'd need to get a better back up PG than Shabazz Napier.

Those are pretty lame ass reasons for not going all in to land one of the top 2-way players in the game during the prime of his career.

To put this in word (singular) you can understand:

    Butler is starrer!

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I'd trade Lillard for Butler. I think McCollum is showing that he can dominate without Lillard and it's not like he'd be alone if the team got Butler. I'm actually not sure why Chicago would trade Butler.

That's actually an interesting suggestion. Butler's game is actually much more similar to Dame's than C.J.'s.

Both Butler and Dame are better are driving, finishing and getting to the line than C.J. C.J. is a better 3-point shooter and has a better mid range game than either. Dame and Butler, while it sounds great, may be slightly redundant offensively, where C.J., with his 3-point and mid range game may be a better compliment to either.

I can see Butler and C.J. working well together.

Do you give up the face of the franchise for a bigger, better defending, slightly older player with similar offensive skills?

Re: Butler. Y'alls know he listens to Country Music, right?
Also: I think if Chicago is trading him, Minny would be the one getting him, because Thibs would want him.
Also also: I kinda had the impression he rubs teammates the wrong way. Dunno how I got that, though.

Based on what we've seen this team do over the past few games with Dame out, if there were any way to add Butler to it, you have to do it.

Wow! I was following the CHI/Butler saga somewhat closely last season, but figured that ship sailed. I wonder if the same issues persist, or if new reasons cropped up, or if it's just because they aren't performing to expectations. Anyone have any info?
Given how CJ has been balling, I'm back to kinda being on the fence with regards to trading him. But Butler is one of the few players I would probably trade him for (I honestly can't think of another player that's reasonably get-able).

True. Last season I believe CHI would have sold fairly low on him (like, I have little doubt we could have traded CJ straight up for him). CHI management made it quite clear they didn't particularly like him, and thought he was a shit "leader". I think it was Noah and...eh, my memory is hazy, but some other vet players, who really didn't like Butler and the way he interacted with and treated his teammates.

Those aren't the only reasons. He's a shithead. That's why CHI wants to trade him. Yes, on the floor, he's a better player than CJ. But I'm quite certain CHI would rather have CJ as their leader.

I think we'd have a much easier time integrating DMC, and getting him to buy-in and take a back seat to Dame. Butler, I suspect, would not take kindly to being thought of as Dame's side kick. That's my rub with Butler.

If they are really shopping Butler, doesn't that mean they are blowing it up; if so it would seems they would be looking for lottery picks.
