Remember that awesome speech Michelle Obama gave?

    What happened?

Have I just not seen it?

Yes, Republicans can be giant assholes.

Does that make it ok for Liberals to be assholes too?

    Truth.

Hence why its annoying when one side tries to say they have more morals or are more mature.

We all are giant assholes. Righties, lefties, middles.

I have to agree to agree. We have totally different ideas on the right and left. And I think a lot of that comes naturally. But, I try to never let it become an issue between myself and other people. Try, is the key word. Because it still happens from time to time.

Exactly. I feel like I'm a pretty decent person. But even thinking that I'm pretty cool, I still catch myself going off the cuff sometimes and saying stupid and hurtful things to people. I think beyond a decent person is the ability to own up to one's failings. I had a minor flame war with @bodyman5000 and 1 the other day. We addressed it in private conversations and made it alright. And now I trust the guy more. We treated each other like good human beings even if we didn't agree on our original positions. Totally fine. I'm not here to piss in people. I'm here to have dialogue.

This honestly makes me really happy and I wish it was something more people would do here.

A huge props to both of you!

I enjoy reading passionate views that are different than mine, IF, those views are backed up with reasonable facts. I usually have a better understanding of the topic after reading their side. Passionate people that can back up what they say with facts are not assholes.

The real problem are the extremists. Their views are seldom backed up with verifiable facts. A lot of what they preach are misinformation campaigns with the intention of misleading people. I have zero patience for that type of passionate agenda. The extremists that can not back up what they say with facts are the assholes.

The issue always lies with context and hypocrisy. I have seen both sides take "stats" and act like they are end all be all. Stats can be manipulated or used without context to prove your point.

Nowadays, all you have to do is google your opinion and you'll find sites agreeing with you. Linking to some of those pieces proves nothing.

There is a way to be passionate and still diplomatic. I don't see it much anymore.

I will admit that this came from @bodyman5000 and 1 . He apologized for so be things and I realized that I had to equally apologize for some things. We are all just people trying to live life.

    You make a valid point.
Maybe what we are seeing is less common sense. Not being able to see the larger picture. It is pretty easy to see through a lot of the manipulated stats, with a little time spent doing your own research. If a topic interests me, I do my own research, I do not rely on what others post.

Most people are trying to win a pissing contest. I try to post views that make people think. Not to get them to agree with me.

People need to stop having pissing contests with each other and start having more old king clancys with each other.
