I understand why it would be put there as the government was being formed, but after 200+ years, I think it has outlived its purpose. Tell me why someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger should be precluded from running for president. I'm not talking about his politics of course or how good of a job he would or not do, but I can't imagine why there would be concern that someone who has lived in this country for as long as he has should be automatically excluded from running for President because of his birthplace. Being President is a difficult enough job as it is. Artificially disqualifying candidates is not a great idea in my opinion.
they were vetting the British at the time they wrote the constitution....the big fear was a double agent loyalist infiltrating the revolution..a lot of colonists were pro England at the time
why the requirement? to curtail the possibility of foreign influence, obviously. heres a question for you now. is possible foreign influence of a president something that should be rigorously investigated and reported on, no matter how unlikely?
you know Marz....I didn't teach government...I taught second language...let's get that straight....my pride in my teaching days is from those I taught....not those who want to politicize my teaching days or say I fear what people say about me....you can in fact have teachers teaching the differences in interpretation of the constitution....just like you can distinguish the difference between nationality and ethnic culture. What does an American look like? In 1776 America lacked the diversity of modern America......and equality didn't exist for minorities or women....let's teach that

Ah the lads do know the reason the term is in the Constitution. They just don't like it and don't think it should be there. So ignore it, the amendment process is too hard and we have the perfect candidate! We must ignore it to proceed! The media failed to tell the story that was just told here on S2.
I didn't say "ignore it", I said it isn't a good requirement. They probably should amend it. But, nobody seems to be anxious to do so.

Yes Trump forced Obama into releasing his BC. But that did not prove he was a Natural born citizen. It proved he was not and the media never covered the issue.

Let's talk about how Trump avoided the draft instead of serving his country in time of war....3 deferments....he found a rabbit hole and Daddy Fred made sure he got out of serving ......now he runs the military...hey! Face it....Trump lied about his draft deferment...let's just give him a pass. When our nation called him to serve....he ran away and hid in the Playboy Club. Then had the gaul to say John McCain was not deserving to be called a hero after almost 6 years as a prisoner of war....we have a nutjob running the military..does this not concern anybody?
