You brought up your sister situation like that is the norm. It's not. It's nowhere near the norm. However, I would happily trade that 6% of people getting over on the system for the 94% that need it.

My kid is going to be playing a sport. This simply will be no time for a job. What you're talking about is eliminating sports for kids and making them janitors and Bean Pickers... This just makes no sense. My son is going to be working on defensive step slides, crossover dribbles, and step-back jumpers. Your plan is going to water down Sports Nationwide making it so we cannot compete in the Olympics. Okay I'm getting kind of grandiose here... But I'm sure you get my point. Kids that are 16 need to be working on strengthening their bodies and their minds while doing the work given. Your ideas simply doesn't have merit.

im glad we can agree kids should work for money and not have to waste time doing school away from school. I have no problem with doing work, but i don't take work home with me without getting paid why should i take school home with me?

sports are good but not a career path. how many people actually get paid to play? plus highschool sports are all local politics. I completely crushed everyone in the post during tryouts and got cut for a kid with no skill cause his mom donated money for travel.

I actually struggled in middle school & high school with tests rarely did I get over a 85% on tests.
(To some degree I still struggle testing. Now that I'm an adult I've learned to how to manage it. Though I still must put in much, much more time working around my dis-order than friends of mine who don't have the dis-order.)
Yet if I was to be asked away from a test about anything that would be on the test. I could answer easily.
Doing poorly on tests, yet still able to recall the answers of said test outside of a test setting. Is a known, diagnosable mental disorder that many children have.

and a good teacher should be able to work around that. why do they force everyone to do homework because some cant learn without it? utilize multiple teaching techniques. customize each child. maybe some need to study, good, tell them to study, if they dont, they fail because they weren't responsible. if people struggle with tests, give them an oral test without them knowing it's a test. just ask questions in class and call on them. and mentally note who is picking up the material. this would help the test takers too because we learn from listening and debate. now the tests come in and he got a D but he answered shit right during class, adjust the grade.

This is silly... Sports have proven they are beneficial in creating good students. I want my son to help me pay for college with his work if possible. He will always have a back-up plan because he knows right now already getting into the NBA or becoming a professional soccer player is a one-in-a-million chance. He knew this when he was 7.

Right. You should do those studies before you formulate your opinion. And be careful of where you get your information from. Let's say you know about 2000 people. That's a high number. So out of the 2,000 people that you possibly know those are the ones that are over utilizing the system. It's probably not even close to 6%. There are well over 310 million people in this country. You can't use your personal experiences to explain trends.

Looks good on paper, but doesn't work that way.
I'm not really comfortable getting into my experience on a forum as to why it doesn't work that way.
Will only say it just doesn't work that way.
I did have good teachers though, without good teachers throughout my middle & high school I don't graduate due to poor testing. Yet I'm close to being able to put Dr. in front of my name.

i dont have a problem with sports, but you can still work and play. even part time 2 hours a night is something. some people dont have to work, perhaps you feel your duty as a parent is to pay for things so your son can focus, i don't have a problem with that, i actually commend you for it and i hope he succeeds. but not everyone has that ability, and there's plenty of kids that would work if given the opportunity.

i wonder if this mental disorder stems from participation awards early in life. they think failure is not an option and panic, forming a mental block. sounds good to me.

You're not really making sense. First, nobody's going to hire some kid for 2 hours to do anything. II that's two hours that they should be using sleeping. It's a well-known fact that high school kids don't get enough sleep. Can I be done refuting this now? I'm sure there are some kids that won't play sports but whether or not they should be cleaning toilets instead of strengthening their mind and body simply isn't debatable.

Oh yeah and fuck you Newt Gingrich! Let's fire the union janitor and hire his son... I swear sometimes these people are fucking stupid...

One thing for sure...Trump cannot let anything go without his comment or brand on it. Tweeting reveals his narsisstic personality and that personality dismissed the aura of presidential diplomacy. The media has a lab animal in its' cage.

You don't seem to know about school curriculum. The teachers are given the curriculum and then they give it to the kids. They are not responsible for the amount of homework given.

You sound brainwashed. Typical conservative response. Your observations are fooling you. What have you observed about black people? See yeah you use the fucking media for that don't you? Bullshit....

i worked 2 hours after school my senior year through the school to work program cause i needed extra credits to graduate since i failed classes that required homework. that job eventually turned full time during summer and when i finally left i was at $17.50 an hour. not too bad for a shit high school job. i worked it till i was 25. had i started working at 25 like you suggest i would have missed out on all that income. probably wouldnt have bought a house before my 29th birthday
