My only point is we know who has value on this team and who doesn't. Sometimes the best moves made are the ones that raise the hair on your next neck or take advantage of market uncertainy. We are always going to build through the draft now. We'll just never know if we can land on a Roy or an Aldridge even with three picks. Not attracting free agents, the only thing we can be certain of is mediocrity. The ceiling an occasional second round appearance. But I'm cool with that. Could be worse. That's just the reality of the NBA.

Portland has a higher ceiling than that. Pritchard gets a bad rap around here, I guess, but he came pretty close to building a superteam. Had it not been for injuries, a Miller/Roy/Batum/Aldridge/Oden lineup (with Wesley Matthews to boot) would have been damn near a dream team. The injuries did happen, but not because Portland is a small market. Bad luck in a small market is hard to recover from, but bad luck isn't inevitable. Next time the franchise gets its ducks in a row, they probably won't see career-altering/ending injuries strike down the two most important parts.

Free Agency acts as an important way to get a do-over. Even if you do roll a six on every pick, you need help. And you shouldn't have to be NY or LA for that to matter. Obviously it doesn't, look at the Knicks. But to say, "Oh winning a championship is ENTIRELY possible here" right before you head over to the Roulette Wheel.... I am still going to be entirely realistic with the outcome. Thank God the NBA doesn't have relegation.

I think Kerry Eggers nailed it. Although I think Neil is taking more heat than he suggests in his article. The Blazers have a talented roster with some depth that is waiting to be fine tuned. I'm not sure what Neil is doing but there is no reason to take those three first rounders and add to the depth that is in place. That is a lot of the problems with this team. It's completely imbalanced and we have players who don't want to be here or don't like their roles. The last thing he needs to do is add three more players to an already deep roster which will cause further problems.

I spend a ton of time trying to figure what he is doing. And here we are again. You started the rebuild process two years ago Neil. Take the assembled talent and do something amazing with it. If you can't, quit stealing the owners money and GET OUT! I for one don't believe you have a clue on what you are doing.

I guess I don't understand the people complaining about taking multiple picks into the draft. 3 picks can be turned into 1 really good pick in a heartbeat. It doesn't mean that we must bring back 3 rookies. I'm guessing that there are several teams that would love to have more than 1 pick in this draft.

 

I would rather have the #22 and/or #28 pick on the bench than Quarterman.

 

Once again, people need to look at it as we are doing thw trade.
