I've been thinking about this off-and-on for about a year now. So I thought I'd let you guys debate this. I don't watch movies anymore, for the record. I find TV and anime more to my liking, and I get my shows online. There hasn't been a movie in a decade that came out where I HAD to go see it in the theater. So I'm capable of waiting until they hit the free streams. In fact, the last movie I saw in the theater was "J. Edgar". Outstanding performance by Leo, btw. As for Action Movies.....my vote goes immediately to: Terminator 2: Judgement Day. I remember when that movie came out. People had never seen that kind of computer graphics. And the best thing about T2 was the fact that they mixed actual stunts with computer technology; rather than the constant green-screen over-animated crap that they do today in our current decade. I think T2 has stood the test of time. And I think that you could argue that, even though it was part of a series, the story line could stand alone on its own merits, as its own movie. The character developments, evolution, and chemistry is, in my opinion, unmatched by any action movie since. James Cameron is truly one of the greatest movie genius's of our time; given how revolutionary that film was. In fact, I think that you could make an argument for him being the greatest Director of all time. I have the "eXtreme DVD", which is a two-DVD-set that was a gift some years back from my sister. I'll never get rid of them. So what are your nominations, and why? Honorable mentions have to go to "The Matrix" and some of the "Indiana Jones" films (Raiders of the Lost Ark, especially). As well as Jurassic Park. I never saw much of the "Die Hard" franchise beyond maybe the first movie, some years after it was released. So I can't pass judgement on that series. The reason I didn't include films such as "Saving Private Ryan" and "Titanic" was because I believe those two films fall into their own category of "War Films" and "Romance", respectively. For the record: never saw Star Wars beyond the original film. Sorry, it just never interested me. Oh, you know, I actually did see Episode 1 of the Phantom Menace in the theater when it came out. But nothing since then. So...enough of my rambling. Discuss.
Who could forget this stuff: Robert Patrick was perfect for this role. And it's a shame Edward Furlong turned out to be such a fuck up. Even by today's standards, that's pretty fucking good.
Without thinking of it very hard at all the movie that immediately came to mind when I read your title was the first Matrix. Saw it twice in the theater in back to back nights, that is how much it blew me away. It is a shame that the others were meh. Not that T2 isn't a great choice...
So many options. Here are a few off the top Blade Runner Raiders of the lost Ark Aliens or Alien Gladiator
The Devil in Miss Jones. Edit: After reading the thread, I apparently assumed the wrong kind of action. Apologies.
Not really ranking them....but movies not mentioned yet 300 The Professional Transporter Face/off Taken Are all movies I enjoy
For me, it's not about non-stop action. It's about the plot, and how the plot is laid out in the movie. It's about the characters, their chemistry, and their development. It's about so much more than just action, IMO.
