How did this make it on the air? The people behind this were actually trying to justify that they thought the names were real and never sounded them out phonetically. Wow. I feel sorry for the anchor who said the names aloud on air...
Well strange stuff does happen. I had a Project manager in Kawasaki and we needed to get him and mail address on the local system at the Lab in Santa Terasa south of San Jose. The local system at the time had a restriction of 8 character for the name. We all just pretty much used our last name without much tinkering or trouble. This guy's Japanese name didn't work out so well through, Takeshita shortened to 8 characters, "Takeshit" doesn't look so good. It did make it in that way though, until someone told me, I had best get it changed.
