Did you actually hear what Ropp said or are you basing this off of BGD's post?

Basing it off the OP's comments:

Did Ropp not say those things? Are you calling the OP a liar?

Because I know several of them.

He's not my hero, but sure, play that card.

This has nothing to do with Ropp and your opinion of him. He's right, better late than never.

You're arguing just to hear yourself...or see yourself, in this case.

No, not calling BGD a liar. I'm guessing it was part of a conversation between multiple people and there might be some missing context.

I don't listen to Ropp on a regular basis and haven't since his Draft the Stache days. I did, however, listen to his whining after getting fired from Talkin' Ball. He was just flat out awful on that show and deserved to be fired. Leave it to him to claim it was some conspiracy led by Neil Olshey to get rid of him because of his criticism of the team. If that was all it takes to get fired from that show, why has Dwight Jaynes been a regular on Talkin' Ball for six years?

For some reason Dwight and Olshey seem to be pretty close. I always see them talking before games. Jaynes seems to be the only member of the press who regularly has Olshey's ear.

It's funny because Dwight was such an outcast during the Patterson years.

And he does still criticize the team, and the players. He's toned it down a bit since his Oregonian days, but it's not like he's just towing the company line. I think self-preservation has helped him find a happy medium. There was a time when he was nearly 100% negative. Now he's more like 60/40 or maybe 70/30 pro Blazers. I think that's a good mix. Give the team and organization credit when they do well, but also hold them accountable when they don't.

This converstion is little premature as we have not yet seen ET play with Nurkic.
Blszer4ever has a good point in that we need to play another passing ball handleing player at guard at all times.
And I say we need a defensive ball handeling and passing SF as well.
    I love Hark but But.......
Another thing we need is for both guards to not expect as many points as before Nurk.
If he gets points they likely wont get as many but the flow and passing will be much better.
Dame was trying in the Suns game but he is just not very efective with guards or forwards that get switched on to him.

I used to get into it with him on AIM back in the late 90s. To his credit, he was never a total dick to me, despite me being a cocky little shit 16 year old.

Well that's what he said. I know a lot of people keep getting pissed off about these kinds of threads. After all CJ is a fan favorite. Not many want to see him go even if it really would better the team in the long run.

The goal is to win a championship. There is no other goal. So if trading CJ will accomplish that goal then I think we would all be in. So how about fixing all the other issues first and then we can use CJ to get that final piece?

But to trade CJ now, for a guard who plays better defense and worse offense, only makes us about the same. Some could argue it will make us a little better, but can you really logically argue that it will achieve the big prize? A little closer to the trophy is not good enough.

So again how about we keep CJ until it makes sense to move him? You think getting Butler is going to win us a championship? Who else are we talking about? Who realistically are we going to get who is better than CJ? You would think with all the threads about it we would have a few more options.

IMO it makes more sense to keep both Dame and CJ and find a back up SG who can shut down other guards off the bench. He can always play more minutes (even start) in certain games where we really need him to. But for the most part CJ is holding his own. Find the stud PF and the stud SF and then we can talk about finding a better SG if needed. But right now trading for a shooting guard who can't shoot as well as CJ, does not make us any better with our current roster, which lacks .......shooting.

Yes a 3 guard lineup with Dame, CJ, and Butler would be nice.

I'm not sure if it puts Portland in legit contender status with Lillard/CJ/Butler/player/Nurk
But certainly it puts them at dark horse contender status.

Not sure how we could get Butler without giving up one of Dame or C.J., but if we did, we'd start all three with Butler at SF.

You could trade CJ for Butler and start Butler at SF. This opens up a starting spot for either Crabbe or Turner.

    Dame
    Crabbe
    Butler
    Vonleh
    Nurkic

Butler, Crabbe, and Turner all have the capability of playing either SG or SF. So you can rotate guys around, with Turner logging some minutes as the ball handler.
