He is going to hold the Senate floor all night. Railing against Neil Gorsuch. Perhaps you will be as impressed as I am. Vote for anyone else.
It appears the Senator has mastered the art of obfuscation. Giving a dissertation on the operations of a board directors running a corporation. But considering the object of his disagreement, he should have explained how a Closely Held Corporation differs. He didn't, but I doubt it was and oversight.
Yeah, shenanigans like Republicans not allowing a President with a year left in his term to put in his Supreme Court nominee. I hope the Democrats keep out Trump's nominee for 4 or 8 years or whatever it takes. Just for revenge.
They cannot keep Trump's nominee from being voted in. They will force the Republicans to do what Harry Reid did with lower court appointees - eliminate the filibuster. Not only is Gorsuch going to be the next Justice, if any of the feeble 80+ year olds cannot continue, he's going to get a 2nd (and maybe 3rd) Justice appointed. Democrats could have made a deal to keep the filibuster, but they choose to commit suicide in public view. Arming the nuke (thanks Reid!) and setting it off (thanks Chucky!).
I'm not a fan of sabotaging the function of the government because you didn't like the way the other guys played, but I can't disagree that the Republican side's response to the USSC vacancy was ridiculous. I'm so tired of partisan divisiveness.
Honestly, listening to the committee hearings seems like listening to a bunch of hypocrites. R's -- This voting against Gorsuch and filibustering is politically motivated. Dems are just voting against Gorsuch because they don't like the R's. (oh yeah, wasn't that the whole point of you blocking Garland??) D's -- All have the same talking points on Gorsuch (but it's clear this is all revenge for Garland). But, R's are bad because they blocked Obama's pick. (umm isn't that what you are doing??). I personally think Gorsuch is a fine pick. But so was Garland. If Trump wanted to mend some fences, he would put up Garland for the next pick. Frankly, that's a pretty good compromise.
"Merkley’s speech, which clocked in at 15 hours and 28 minutes, was the eighth-longest Senate floor speech since 1900."
Screw the fences! Put in another Scalia. Let's operate under the Constitution, as it says, or modify it via the amendment process, Not morph it by benevolent judges.
Only Democrats say that. It's the philosophy of a loser, if Republicans follow the opposite philosophy, which they do. Appealing to the Christian pacifism in Republican killers will never get anywhere.
Fatigue with fighting. This is why Democrats always lose. Republicans only understand killing, imprisonment, and torture. Play by their rules. For example, they held hearings on Hillary, delayed them a year to coincide with election season, then dropped them the day after the election. Surely the media won't hold Democrats responsible for partisan divisiveness, since they don't hold Republicans responsible for it...
