I don't give a shit about the RF court one way or the other. Being lied to in the story is another matter. Organically my ass A few people making up half of the vote will easily beat the other half if it is made up of thousands of kids all choosing different people. All the girls that won had to do was get ONE vote from someone at their school. Then the other half gets together and picked who they wanted.
Doesn't bother me a bit. Just like people have lied for years that the girls were all just the smartest and hardest workers who just happened to be the hottest girls at their schools. I knew people were full of shit then, still are.
It boils down to this for me: if they were the best candidates than good on them. Awesome. I'm happy for them. But what are the statistical chances of that being true? Why does everyone have to have a feel good story though? My wife likes to watch The Voice, and I find it funny that the premise of the show is supposed to be about people chosen entirely for their voice.... and yet every one of those fuckers has a sappy story. Their dad died. Their house burned down. They're a lesbian. They were homeless. How can the show be entirely about their voice if they're going on and on about why their life sucked so much before the show? If the winner was picked entirely for their voice, wouldn't we know nothing about them? Wouldn't we not even SEE them until a winner is picked? THAT would be a show about the purity of selecting someone entirely on their merits. THAT is a show I could get behind.
If they were mostly white girls would you still be questioning the merit of them being selected? Is the fairness and accuracy of this thing I've never even heard of a hot button issue to you?
Depends on the percentage of white girls in the schools I guess. It would be weird if say Jefferson elected an all white homecoming court. Kind of like when Jesuit has a bunch of black athletes...people just assume shady shit is going down
If the court was 58% white and the rest were minorities, I would think, "statistically, that makes sense, because that's the percentage of white kids in Portland Public schools." It would be interesting to see the number of white girls who went out for the court compared to the number of minorities, and then see what the actual odds were of this happening.
Maybe white girls think the Rose Festival is beneath them to apply? You know with their Coachella and shit like that.
There may have been a smart, white and American born girl who really needs that 3500 bucks more than one of these girls that were chosen "organically" If my car keeps getting keyed everwhere I go it isn't the luck of the draw. It isn't organic, I've done or am doing something. Are we getting to the point that every job or rose court festival position will have to be chosen without knowing any identifying things about someone's race? Is that the only way to make it fair?
Haven't Rose Festival girls always been kind of nerdy outcasts? Dunno I went to Jesuit we only had bros. Don't even know who from st Mary's academy was on the court
When I was in middle school, the junior princesses were pretty damn cute..... but they did away with that because they hurt too many feelings from not getting picked.
