When the store assistant manager immediately pretended that I had spit on her I knew instantly not to allow this situation to escalate. I'd bet there are multiple police reports from that store that start off with, "The customer assaulted me by spitting on me. We responded by taking him to the ground and beating the crap out of him." It honestly felt that way. If it weren't for the other couple who immediately spoke up I am positive that I would be currently under arrest and charged with all sorts of crazy crap.

It was such a strange situation. What's odd is that I was taking the picture of the "undercover" security guy to take to the manager to complain about his lack of action. I was on my way to the customer service desk when I was surrounded, threatened and prevented from leaving.

That's what the assistant manager did by pretending that I spit on her.

I thought so. That store is terrible. Always has been. Wood village has gone downhill so much i won't even go there anymore either. Happy valley is the only eastside location that seems to have semi-normal people. I dislike walmart, but for shits sake man, that entire strip mall is shit. Weirdos everywhere.

You were the one in the situation so you know best, probably a good idea not to escalate it. Good call, definitely should let Walmart know what is happening at that store, I doubt they want a bunch of employees who are a ticking time bomb for a lawsuit, which is what it sounds like if this is indeed a common occurrence.

Report back on what the police and Walmart say if you end up following through on it!

That's where the name came from. Wasn't a huge fan but liked their one hit.

I wanted to hit people at Costco today. My wife reminded me we needed water softener pellets via text. I wandered around and found them all the way in the back. She was by the registers so I grabbed two 40lb bags and started walking to the checkout.

4 different people cut me off or just blocked me from making it through entirely. One woman stopped right in the middle of the aisle to check her shopping list. I felt like adding Aleve to it for her.

Some people are criminally unaware of their surroundings.

Most of them are small. I was telling my wife I'd really hurt people and break things if I were like that.

This is so wrong, on so many levels, it is keeping me awake just thinking about it.

I will expand on one topic at a time.

? Was there a sign clearly posted stating “No Photography” or a similar condition to enter the store?

If you where taking pictures of products or displays, and they could prove your intentions where to gain a competitive advantage, that might be illegal, but very difficult to prove, and seldom enforced.

However, taking pictures of people in a public place, even on private property, is not illegal unless it is an invasion of privacy such as in a fitting room or bathroom.

Even if posted “No Photography”, taking pictures of people in a store would not be illegal; it would be a breach of a contractual agreement and a condition to entire the store. They could not arrest you, handcuff you, take your equipment or ask you to destroy the pictures. All they could do is ask you to leave, or they are breaking the law.

Here is a link to more info.

It should be noted I am not an attorney, and there maybe local laws that contradict these opinions.

If there is ever a fire there one of those people will be surprised when I try to throw them through the emergency exits marked with a 15 second delay.

Which I can't fathom any reason it should be legal to have by the way. I don't care about theft prevention. If there is a fire or gunshots people will apparently be stuck inside for 15 seconds. ....no biggie right?

I'd ask if they knew about the Nexus 6p's ability to take pictures of a person's colon.

Why my first instinct is to threaten someone with an inanimate object being inserted I'll never know. Actually my exact words are "I'll jam it in straight and pull it out sideways "

I imagine the whole ordeal tramatized Mrs. SPD pretty severly. So bad she has been feeling sick, and couldn't sleep at all tonight, right? I mean, having a gang of employees threaten you numerous times, I bet the Mrs. was fearing for your safety.....

Screw them. Their actions are totally unacceptable, at ANY store. I like MARIS61s idea of the attorney. Start at the top, and go down. Send the CEO a copy of everything. Call that 1 800 free-shit number. Sounds like that manager and undercover need to go. If they aren't stopped by complaints, they'll get someone else...You already know this shit- you just shouldn't feel bad or guilty about doing any of it. Make it worth your time too....

Firstly, let me say that I'm glad that you are okay.

This. I will go into more detail below.

Yes, you need to handle this with the police as soon as you can. Be calm, give as much detail as you can, and if you have to, sit down with a pad and paper first and think it over while you write it out. Try not to make up details; that's easy to do when one is emotional, so try and be calm while you're writing it out.

I can personally tell you that you did a couple of things wrong:

    1) the next time this happens, you are solely responsible for two things: your safety and the safety of your wife. PERIOD. Your FIRST duty is to get to safety, and that means you should have immediately left the store and made your way to the safety of your car.

    2) you should have IMMEDIATELY called 9-1-1. If you absolutely have to, stand at a distance and observe what is going on while relaying the information to dispatch in a calm manner. People are also less-likely to fuck with you if you tell them that you are talking to 9-1-1, because everything is recorded. Portland Police have good response times when it comes to fights. The best thing you can do in that situation, with no training or self-defense tools on your person, is to be the best observer that you can be. The law loves a good, honest, observant bystander.

Also, you should know that the store employees, including security, have NO legal right to detain you AT ALL. It is NOT a crime to take a picture, and they would ALL be looking at a VERY big lawsuit, I'm sure, if they got physical with you. So the next time they yell at you, immediately and calmly leave the store. They CANNOT charge you with ANYTHING. They are civilian employees making hourly wages at a corporation. They have no more legal authority than you do.

Now, that would be different if you actually were observed committing a crime. But that is irrelevant, since you were NOT committing a crime.

So I'm glad you're okay. Do NOT be afraid to defend yourself as necessary next time. And consider carrying either a tazer or a can of pepperspray. If you're going for the pepperspray, take my advice and get a quality brand: Fox Labs 5.3 or Sabre Red.

And this goes without saying....FIND ANOTHER STORE TO SHOP IN. If that means you have to drive to another part of the city, then so be it.

Also, if you write this out, remember the critical things: Who, What, Where, When, Why, How (and not necessarily in that order).

How tall were the people involved? How many people were there? What were they wearing? Did they have freckles? Were they wearing glasses? What color was their hair? How long was their hair? What color were their shoes? Did they have holes in their jeans?

Did they walk with a limp? Were they fat? Skinny? Talk funny? Accents?

What did they smell like? Did they smell of alcohol and/or weed?

    Etc etc.
