The world sucks. The kids are ok, Roy wasn't hury too horribly. Sometimes laughter is a good thing....Actually most of the time it's a good thing
I'm super pissed at people making fun of Brandon Roy Valiant effort. Most people would run away in that situation not put themselves in front of the bullets...
Former NBA All-Star Brandon Roy was shot in the leg outside his grandmother's house near Los Angeles, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports' Sam Amick. The person requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. So an anonymous source who doesn't sound like they were there and we're ready to proclaim Roy as a hero? Sure, I could see Roy doing that but we have no witness statements, no police report, not even a cell phone video? There is a very good chance that is a lot more to this story.
Brandon Roy wasn't the only person struck by gunfire during the shooting in L.A. over the weekend, two other people were hit and cops are currently on the hunt for the gunman ... TMZ Sports has learned. Law enforcement sources confirm ... the ex-NBA player and 2 other people were injured during a shooting in Compton, CA on Saturday night around 9 PM. We're told all 3 victims are alive though we don't know how severe their injuries are at this point. Our sources say Roy was NOT the intended target -- though it's unclear who was. Law enforcement sources say a group of men approached the place where Roy was hanging out and one man pulled a gun and opened fire. Witnesses say no words were exchanged and it's unclear why the shooting took place. We're told the shooter is an adult black male. Cops are looking for all of the men involved. As for reports the shooting was gang-related, we're told cops are investigating that. We're also told the neighborhood where the shooting took place has a heavy gang presence. Roy is reportedly back in Washington recovering from his injuries. http://www.tmz.com/2017/05/03/brandon-roy-shooting-suspect-cops-investigating/
I don't see it as making fun of him or his bravery. It's possible to honor the man and use humor to relieve tension. It's a relief he's OK, and humor often follows when someone escapes a dangerous situation. When Ronald Reagan got shot and was asked if he was OK he quipped: "All things considered, I'd rather be in Philadelphia" (a famous WC Fields line). Humor is great.
I understand where you're coming from, but I also think there's a difference between making fun of someone and finding the humor in a situation. What Roy did was nothing short of heroic, there is no disputing that (assuming the accuracy of the initial reports). Nothing that's been said in this thread--joking or serious--denigrates his selflessness and heroism.
There is no tension to relieve... Roy has the only tension. Joking about someone being shot is fucking bush league.
You know Meyers is driving around Portland looking for a burning house filled with kittens to rescue.
I wouldn't joke. I'd thank him for being in the right place at the right time and helping people. Who gives a fuck of the fool can play basketball or not? Be a good human always help those in need when you can...
I liked Bonzi, but if he spit on me then the Rose Garden would look like malice in the palace. Loved Rider. IDGAF about weed and pop cans... Miles was an asshat who quit on us and then came back to stick it to us with his contract. All that said, if the narrative is true and one of them was shot defending some children, I would never joke about that. Those who do have issues in my opinion...
