I remember buying this in the local furniture store when it came out with my jar of coins....all records were sold in furniture stores then because record players were coffee tables....you had a choice between the mono version or the stereo version.....I listened to it a million times but later on in retrospect if I put on a Beatles album from my collection, it's always Revolver ....my personal favorite Beatles album of all time. I was 12 when this one came out......
I think Peppers is probably my favorite of theirs, but I've heard it so many times, I'd probably prefer today to listen to Abbey Road, Revolver or Rubber Soul.
I figured as much. I like The Beatles post-discovery of drugs. Their work prior doesn't do much for me.
The Beatles are as if One Direction managed to morph into Radiohead over the course of about 7 years.
That is actually pretty profound. To be the first group to have been able to be the most popular at what they did and be the best at what they did? Our society doesn't accept generally ugly people doing things well no matter how much they practice.... (look at the amount of hits for the girls on Youtube who play guitar with the big tits.) But for a group with two song writing geniuses to hook up with a producer like George Martin and a manager like Brian Epstein.... that is frankly amazing. They introduced an entire generation of screaming teens to Baroque Pop and Brill Building-style songwriting. In an industry that leaves lots of junkies and dead bodies around the age of 24.... that is pretty special.
