I would put "friends" in quotation marks. Your true friends care about you; I think too many get involved with those who are hitching a ride. I know NBA has rookie orientation that includes both financial planning and watching out for leeches, but like the old saying says, you can lead a horse to water. I saw an ESPN program on exactly this subject, athletes who make millions and end up broke. Many think normal investments that pay 2% interest are not sexy enough and throw their money into insane schemes. Others think they can be music moguls (that one is so common) and pour millions into recording studios that go broke; Chris Webber commented he likes music too but the only thing he ever bought were CDs.

My memory may not be what it was... wasn't he one of the high school to NBA players? I mean, if you gave me right out of high school a shitwad of dough I doubt I'd be super responsible. But I think even then I knew enough to know when I did not know (which may not make sense but does). It's those who think they have all the answers because they have the very best brain and are surrounded by people whose livelihood depends on flattering them that they don't ask for assistance when needed.

It's easy for a MF with no millions to say what they'd do if they had millions.

Any one of us could go through this. Only difference is none of us will really ever know.

Oh yeah, all the rest of us were certified financial planners as teenagers. Investing our fast food money in a Roth IRAs because we were so responsible.
