Grew up in Indiana. One of the best high school prospects in the country in his class. Won Indiana's Mr. Basketball. Played in the McDonalds game Played on the Indy Specie Heat AAU Team. Ahem. Is this Greg Oden or Caleb Swanigan? (I know their games are nothing alike), but they have similarities).
Should be started at the 1:00 minute mark, if not, fast forward to that point. This will show clearly what Swanigan needs to work on, his slow feet are exploited. Plus Deonte Burton is one of my favorite Cyclones ever. Just watch, you will be highly entertained, I promise!
Last year Swanigan would have been the 2nd tallest/biggest player on the team behind Nurk (his standing reach ties him with several players at 9'0 but he is heavier than most of them) So I don't think his length is the issue on D. I assume he is a better defender than Meyers (who got minutes in the playoffs) so maybe he gets minutes at C? He is a physical player.
To be fair, this video show the whole arsenal that Swanigan brings. Lots of stuff to be excited about!
I hope Swanigan turns out to be a player, but I'm not counting on it. This draft was about Collins. I think Zach Collins was one of the top 3 talents available in the draft.
I like Swanigan if for no other reason than he's a "feel good' pick and a franchise needs one of those every now and again. I hope he works out. He kind of reminds me of a Mark Bryant type. Bryant had a long (if journeyman quality) career and was a good bench and team guy. Not to mention a tough mofo.....I think Swanigan will prove to be a positive addition..
"He became first collegiate player since Tim Duncan in 1996-97 to average at least 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and three assists for an entire season and answered nearly every question NBA scouts had for him after his freshman season." http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...ess_to_the_nba_predraft_workout_with_tra.html
After watching that video, it's clear why Neil drafted Swanigan. He wants Caleb to show him how to lose 245 unwanted pounds. BNM
Great videos. Thanks for posting. In the first video you posted, Burton goes right around Swanigan for the dunk. In the second video, at about the 1:50 mark, Burton tries it again, but Swanigan swats it away. Swanigan does look like he's a bit slow footed, but I like the effort he seems to be putting in on every play. To grab 12.5 rebounds per game with those 'slow feet', he must be doing something right.
Said the same thing in one of the threads yesterday. We've seen it time and time again - rebounding seems to be that thing that translates from college to the NBA.
I said Kevin Love and got shit on for it. I think millsap is a little more athletic but I can see some similarities.
Yeah, here's the thing. We have seen so many examples of undersized less than athletic brusier type power forwards make it in this league. At this point, I almost look at his lack of athleticism as a positive rather than negative.
