So, you think a 20-year old who improved EVERY aspect of his game from his freshman to sophomore years is done improving? This kid has the desire and work ethic to get better. I wouldn't count him out before you've seen him play one second of NBA basketball. BNM
you write really well....glad to see you posting again but our reading comprehension isn't at question....your statement that he'll never be anything but a small ball 5 and maybe not even that, I disagree with....simply that...I don't know why we're comparing a 20 year old with Kevin Love or Kevin Duckworth or Meyers Leonard at this point....what the Blazers need is a defensive coordinator in my view for everyone on the roster
Totally agree. That is what i said. He needs to work his tail off to make an impact. But right now he looks a lot like Cliff Alexander. Who by the way is playing for The Erie Bay Hawks.
Why is comparing Swanigan to Love 'ridiculous'? Swanigan: 6'9", 247 lbs standing reach: 9'0" wingspan: 7'3" Per40: (So): 22.7 ppg, 15.3 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.0 bpg, 44.7% 3pt Love: 6'10", 255 lbs standing reach: 8'10" wingspan: 6'11" Per40: (Fr) 23.6 ppg, 14.4 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.9 bpg, 35.4% 3pt I'd say there are quite a few comparable stats there. Swanigan was the #2 rebounder in the country in one of the toughest conferences. Virtually all of his stats improved from his freshman to sophomore year. Swanigan may turn out to be a bust, but at the #26 pick, I think we got a steal. I see a lot more similarities (and weaknesses) in his game comparing him to Kevin Love and Zach Randolph, than I do to comparing him to busts like Ike Diogu or Sean May. This guy has some elite talent. And his work ethic to this point tells me he'll work his tail off to improve on his deficiencies.
No, he didn't. Duck struggled with weight his entire career and it ultimately cost him his life at the age of 44. Comparing Swanigan's weight issues to Duckworth's is just plain lazy and inaccurate. Duck's weight was constantly going up. Swanigan's has been going down for the last 7 years. Duck = weight increasing Swanigan = weight decreasing Meyers = game regressing Swanigan = game improving Your comparisons suck. BNM
Cliff's offensive ability compared to Swanigan are pretty much non existent and his rebounding was not as good either
I was not the one that compared this guy to Love, Randolph. I said Meyers only because he is currently on the team but that doesn't fit either because again he is a 7 footer. It was more of a knock on Meyers really. Right now i don't see this guy making much of an impact. But who knows? We hope for the best around here.
We'll see..... Swanigan has moved from 350 lbs at 15 (8th grade) to 250 at 19. He also lost his father and has really turned his life around so yes i will be pulling for him to succeed. Also he is a Blazer at this point so we all hope he will become a beast.
He may LOOK like Cliff Alexander because they have very similar physical measurements, but that's where the similarities end. Cliff has a low BBIQ and a questionable work ethic. That's why he's in the D/G League. Swanigan has a high BBIQ and an unquestionable work ethic. Another lazy , inaccurate comparison. Show me when, exactly, Cliff Alexander has ever shown the type of all encompassing improvement Swanigan made from his freshman to sophomore years. BNM
Well the best thing we all can do is give the guy a chance who knows he might suprise you. Do I see impact is 1st year no it won't be for him not being good it because he behind to many players.
Which is why any comparison between Meyers Leonard and Caleb Swanigan is utterly ridiculous. Meyers has no feel for the game and still looks like a deer in the headlights on the court after five seasons in the NBA. Swanigan has a high BBIQ and a great feel for the game. He is the anti-Meyers. BNM
Meyers is mentally and physically SLOW, his lateral quickness is awful as is how friggin long it takes him to jump and react to anything, and where Caleb appears to be very tough mentally and physically Meyers is a marshmallow. These guys are so far apart in many ways its a joke, that does not guarantee success by any means but trying to compare him to Meyers is IMO is a joke
I'm going to disagree with you on this one. I think he will see minutes off the bench and make an impact by the end of his rookie year. His work ethic, motor and skill set will see him rapidly pass most of the guys who are currently in front of him in the rotation. BNM
You say this now. At one point Alexander was a top five recruit straight out of high school. The entire Blazer fan base had him as a total beast and he would surprise everyone. This is my point. None of you have seen him play a second of NBA ball but want to compare him to Love and Zbo.
Nobody anywhere compared Swanigan to Meyers. All i said was at this point even Meyers had quicker foot speed. Meyers also has a way better vertical jump but there is no way to compare the two. Apples and Oranges.
