After trading Quarteman and renouncing Ezeli, we're at about $134.6 million - not counting our rookie cap holds. If we also renounce Connaughton, we'd be just a hair under $133 million. plus roughly $4.5 million in cap holds for our two first round picks. That's right around $137.5 million.

Based on the latest salary cap projection of $99 million, the luxury tax threshold is $119 million and the apron is $123 million. We're basically $18.5 million over the tax threshold, or $14.5 million over the apron. We need to shed either Crabbe or Turner or a combination of two contracts without taking back much, or any salary in return just to get under the apron.

Crabbe for a future draft pick (i.e. no incoming salary) is the only single contract that gets us under the luxury tax threshold. That assumes we also cut loose Patty C and the team we are trading with is at least $21.275 million under the cap due to Cabbe's trade kicker.

Great move by Utah. Rubio is underrated.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Rubio is a solid player on a team that has plenty of shooting. He's a brilliant passer and very good defender. I don't know if Utah will have that kind of shooting around him, though.

I swear, Rubio has been traded more times than Blake has signed with the Blazers.

What? This is the first time he was traded. He was drafted by the Wolves.

This july 1 thing is such a farce. No way Minny does this without a guarantee of Lowry, Rondo, Rose or Holiday coming to the Wolves

I think the joke is that there are constantly reports that Rubio is going to be traded to one team or another. This would be the first time one of those reports actually came through, but he's probably been linked to half the teams in the league.

A lotto protected (via OKC) pick?!

Utah fleeced Minny. A mid/late first rounder you hope is as good as Rubio.

Rubio can't shoot and he's paid too much to come off the bench. He's a downgrade from Hill, even at his younger age.

Minny just got a ton of cap space. I like it for them much more.

Does that mean they are letting Patty walk, with Hill and Parker splitting the PG minutes?

We need a playmaker/defender from our bench unit and Rubio is a better version of Livingston - broken jumper and all.

Neil should've been all over this with our pick.
