    Hello darkness, my old friend
They don't have next year's Philadelphia pick--they have next year's Lakers pick (owned currently by Philadelphia) which is protected from 2-5 (Philadelphia keeps it if it doesn't fall within that range). If that pick doesn't convey, they get Sacramento's unprotected pick in 2019.

If you're Memphis, would you rather have Crabbe or Harkless? I would personally rather have Harkless. I think Memphis could put Gasol on the open market and get better offers.

I'm not entirely sure how much space Boston needs to create to sign Hayward, but they're already capped out.

If I'm Memphis, I want a combination of talented young players and probably draft picks, so guys like Bradley and Crowder wouldn't interest me. I would want guys like Smart, Brown, and Tatum. Well, those three players collectively only would make around $15,139,900. Gasol's contract next year is $22,642,350. Boston would be a little over $7 million short, and I'm not sure if Boston would really want to give up Smart, Brown, AND Tatum. I think they'd be willing to move Brown OR Tatum, but not both.

You guys would rather have Harkless just because of his age. Hes never going to be a star player. I'd rather have Aminu. He may be inconsistent at times but I like his grittiness and toughness.

Boston needs to clear $3M, and send out $18M to bring back Gasol. How do they get that done?? Crowder, Smart, Brown, and Rozier would be enough for Gasol, but they'd have to clear $3M before-hand?

I don't think they'll get Gasol. They don't have to ability to work that under the CBA unless they trade Bradley instead of Smart, but trading Bradley and pieces for Gasol seems counter-intuitive, because they would fill their frontcourt by adding Gasol to Horford, but they'd have a gaping hole at SG.

I try to stick up for you from time to time, but it's tough when you like Aminu over Harkless. Age has nothing to do with it - it's skills vs no skills. Aminu isn't gritty or tough - he's just long and dumb.

I think they'd have to replace Brown with Tatum. Memphis isn't really under any pressure to trade Gasol. He still has 3 years left on his contract. They just dumped a ton of cash on Mike Conley and Parsons. They're pretty much fucked. People bitch about our current situation, but Memphis is paying 29 year old Mike Conley $28.5 million next year, busted up Chandler Parsons is making $23 million next year, and 32 year old Gasol is making $22.6 million. Would anyone here trade Dame/CJ/Nurk for a core of Conley, Gasol, and Parsons? Fuck... no....

But no one is really complaining about the money Dame, CJ and Nurk will make. It's the other guys...

I think the more appropriate question is probably "Would anyone trade Meyers/Crabbe/Turner for Conley/Parsons/Gasol?" I think there'd be some takers, but honestly it's still not all that enticing given Parsons' contract, and paying that sort of money for back-up PG and C would be rather stupid.

Regardless, we have a very talented young core, and though our role players are making too much money, when those contracts expire, Dame/CJ/Nurk will still be in their prime. Our situation is not that bad. Memphis has an aging core and really no youth to build around for the future.

In any scenario, we could find a 3rd team to take Davis or Aminu and send our 2018 1st to Boston.
    BOS Gets: 2018 1st, Cash (via Team3)
    POR Gets: Crowder
    Team3 Gets: Davis/Aminu, 2020 POR 2nd

If they are actually going after Gasol, they could trade or cut Smart, sign Hayward, and then send out $18M for Gasol. To get this done, they'd have to send out Avery Bradley, who we could target as well.

MEM Gets: 2018 POR 1st, (Harkless, Davis, or Aminu), Brown, Rozier, Mickey, Jackson
    POR Gets: Avery Bradley
    BOS Gets: Marc Gasol

    Boston lineup:
    Thomas / Vet FA
    Crowder / Vet FA
    Hayward / Tatum
    Horford / Vet FA
    Gasol / Vet FA

    Portland lineup:
    Lillard / Bradley
    McCollum / Bradley
    Crabbe / Turner
    Vonleh / Davis / Aminu
    Nurkic / Collins

    Did you see my trade?

    Portland gets Crowder/Bradley.

    Boston gets Gasol.

Memphis gets Harkless/Brown/Smart/Vonleh and a pick from us if that's necessary.

    Dame/Bradley
    CJ/Turner/Patty
    Crowder/Aminu/Layman
    Collins/Swanigan
    Nurk/Davis/Meyers

I like that but think you could do the following with the bench:

    Portland lineup:
    Lillard / Turner
    McCollum / Bradley
    Crabbe / Aminu
    Vonleh / Davis
    Nurkic / Collins

It's not enticing? I'd do that in a heartbeat. That would be awesome... Conley would be great as a 3rd guard, and we'd just go twin towers with Gasol and Nurkic, and physically beat teams up in the frontcourt while our backcourt lights them up.

    Lillard / Conley
    McCollum / Conley
    Harkless / Parsons
    Gasol / Vonleh
    Nurkic / Collins

That frontcourt is built to beat Golden State. That backcourt is built to keep up with them. Parsons, if healthy, would be better than last year. He's not a 23% 3pt shooter or whatever it was. Conley would likely be fine with a 3rd guard spot playing 30mpg, getting $30M a year. Conley/Lillard/Harkless/Gasol/Nurkic would be a fun ass lineup, and we'd have the best pick n roll in the league.

How would they clear cap space for Hayward?

By cutting Mickey and Jackson while trading Rozier, they'd still need to clear $1M in cap space to sign Hayward.

They'd only need to clear $1 million?

    Two words:

    Cash.

    Considerations.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Bradley would only play 13mpg? How would the minutes work out? Bradley needs all the guard minutes that aren't taken up by Lillard and McCollum.

    Lillard (35) / Bradley (13)
    McCollum (35) Bradley (13)
    Crabbe (24) / Turner (21) / Bradley (3)
    Vonleh (16) / Davis (16) / Aminu (16)
    Nurkic (33) / Collins (15)

Bradley would end up with 29 minutes a game. We'd go super small for a 3 minute stretch each game with Lillard/McCollum/Bradley

Yeah, but the only contracts left to clear would be Brown, Smart, Bradley, and Crowder. They're going to have to get rid of one of them to sign Hayward. In order to sign Hayward and trade for Gasol, they'll have to get rid of one of Brown, Smart, or Crowder to sign Hayward, then trade out the other two along with Bradley to make the salaries match in order to bring in Gasol.

In your trade scenario, you don't have them clearing enough cap space to sign Hayward, and if they sent us Crowder they wouldn't be sending enough outgoing salary to bring in Gasol.
