We don't need cap space to re-sign Nurk. It'll just make the tax bill a lot larger.

We don't need cap to sign Nurk. I think the reality is that we're going to be in salary cap purgatory for the next few years.

If I was Neil I wouldn't get back into it when they want to start back up on this trade. Neil already gave his pieces and they don't want that tell then don't call me. This team will be alright if we just stand fast. But what it looks like other teams don't want Anderson contract and other teams don't want Leonard. So until the pieces change in this trade Anthony will stay a Knick.

I don't agree with you here. In Stotts system Hibbert IMO would have done well. Hawes too. And we all know he wasn't really targeting Parsons.

Also, by leaking that they wanted to see if Carmelo would consider staying or expanding his list of teams he'd accept a trade to, they make it easier to explain why the return they got was less than favorable. "Our hands were tied. He wanted out, and to a specific team, not our fault, etc etc."

This. He needs to just find a team that would take Butters. IMO Aminu, Davis, and Crabbe are all moveable.

Yup. The hindsight on Hibbert is annoying as hell. He was an excellent player for the first couple years of that contract, and then something happened. The rumor was that Paul George slept with his girlfriend. Whatever it was, Hibbert just stopped trying.

Or the new Knicks GM is telling Carmelo: "I know you want to go to the Rockets or Cavs, but they've got nobody to trade that anybody wants. I mean, c'mon, do you really think someone's going to take Ryan Frickin' Anderson's albatross of a contract just to help you move to Houston? I've got an offer on the table from Portland that I can live with so it's your choice: play in Portland with Lillard, McCollum, and Nurkic or play out your contract in a Knicks uniform."

The Knicks have O'Quinn, Plumlee and Noah at Center. And I guess Porzingis (does he really play center?). I would pencil in Noah to be injured, Plumlee's not great, O'Quinn is a fine backup. I think the Knicks should take Meyers and another player not named Harkless to make salaries work, and either send us O'Quinn or Plumlee if they think they are overloaded at center, or just keep them all and let them fight it out for playing time. Come on new guy. Let's make a deal.

    I'll tell you what:

I'd take Carmelo at the 4 before RA.

This really would be easier if he'd accept a move to Portland.

Dude... that's McKayla Maroney.... I highly doubt that Hibbert hit that.

Edit - also, that pic was taken in 2012, so she was 17 years old.

This stuck trade must be doing wonders for Meyers confidence, but he believes in himself even if no NBA GM seems to

Yeah, I was on the No No No train regarding Carmelo to Portland. Until they wanted to give us Anderson. Now...maybe let's talk about it.

Carmelo isn't exactly a defensive dynamo either. Can he even play without the ball in his hands? At least Anderson doesn't need the ball, and when he gets it he'll either shoot or pass, no fooling around. But Carmelo is so much better. In late clock situations, you know you can give it to Carmelo, or CJ, or Dame, and they can create something. So there's that. Both contracts are bad, but Carmelo's is worse, but not for as long? (I forget.)

I'll check with my scouts and my stats guy and get back to you ;)

I understood Hibbert. I thought we were overpaying, but I understood it - I don't put this in either the "pro" or "con" column. Hawes I thought was awful and we lucked out when he went elsewhere and had to settle for Kaman (who I thought was a much better player than Hawes). Who knows what the truth is on Parsons - I'd like to believe that we told him to sign with MEM, but I'm not sure. Dorrel Wright sucked. Ed, Aminu, Turner are all underwhelming at best. Monroe was another bullet dodged. Ezeli was a gamble with a very small likelihood of paying off. Kanter would have been a Hibbert-like move. Putting all his eggs in LA's free agency was dumb - in the end he's lucky LA walked, but he should have gotten assets for him before it got to that point. Basically, Neil's free agency transactions are overwhelmingly bad IMO...and that opinion doesn't hang on Hibbert at all.

Not that the Blazers are involved in this at all, but this configuration of a NYK-HOU-CLE deal would make sense to me.
    • Knicks would feel like they're upgrading at a couple spots and would have a temporary placeholder for 'Melo.
    • Cavs significantly increase their perimeter shooting, and have a cheap replacement for Thompson
    • Houston gets Carmelo and gets Frye to basically replace Anderson.
