Not talking about as a lead dog, or as a 1-on-1 player, but as a role player (which Melo would have to be if he came here), it's not ridiculous at all.

If that is how he truly feels, its pretty obvious that he's actually never set foot in the city other then playing basketball for 3 hours 1 to 2 times a year.

Not "better", but maybe a better value? And probably better for the Blazers long-term.

If the Blazer think Harkless will continue to improve, the stats show that he can provide some of what Carmelo does, while staying in his lane and not taking touches away from other players who are more efficient than Melo. Harkless is also, IMO, a better defender.

An overpriced one-year rental who depletes future assets doesn't seem like a shrewd business move to me. :dunno:

    Paraphrasing:

Lowe: No one is taking Ryan Anderson. Teams want 2 first rounders. Portland's name has been mentioned, but they're already top 5 in payrolls and can't take on more money.

Portland's involvement in going after Melo is real. They have less damaging versions of Anderson in Harkless and Leonard who are better trade pieces than what HOU has. Heard from people in Portland about Dame. He has a bit of that DRose/Westbrook in that he is a perfect franchise player who was never into recruiting players before. He wanted to fight with his existing teammates and won't ever ask for help, but he and CJ are now embracing that role. He wants another star.

Begley: I don't see Melo waiving that no trade clause for POR. Other thing I heard is about Melo is into the tech VC thing (Stuart Goldfarb) and people in POR might try to appeal to Melo by showing him the booming tech industry (and look at who the owner is, etc) in the city. I don't think it will work but...

Lowe: I mean, it's not insane. You can build trades. If Knicks' best offer is nothing, you can build Portland trades. You can get a sorta bad contract like Turner or whatever, a pick. Dame is really good, CJ is really good, Nurk was unbelieveable for 20 games.

Beck: To the point of Portland, what does Melo really want? Is the city that important? Before it used to be just about money. He forced his way to NY ridding them of all their assets to get all his money. The NTC is what's driving all this because the Knicks can't just trade him where they can get the best offer.

I get that Anthony has every right to pick where he wants to go, but I really don't see why he would be so against Portland? It's not like he'd be making a long term commitment to us. If Houston isn't viable, then fuck it, come here for a year. If you don't like it, leave in 12 months.

It comes down to what Dame, CJ and Olshey have all said in the past....we don't want anyone here that doesn't want to be in Portland and buy into Blazer culture....I think Melo has that and that alone to consider ...if this keeps up, he'll be an unhappy, yet very wealthy paycheck player with the Knicks and walk after a season with no guarantee he's getting another big payday with another team

The only thing I can think of is what contender will have $$ for Melo next offseason? Spurs maybe if they can move Aldridge?
Basically the only thing he can try to do is force a trade to one. If that doesn't happen he'll have to join a 2nd tier team.
IDK why he thinks he rockettes are a contender, they're clearly a second tier team.

I haven't seen anything that says that he's so against Portland. It's more a case of he really wants to go to Houston to play with Chris Paul and James Harden. Since there's no huge rush at this time of the summer, he's smart to wait and see if something happens with other teams getting involved in the trade so that he can get what he wants. It seems to me that the Portland option would be something that he might consider towards the end of summer if it looks like there's nothing that will work to get him to Houston and his only other choice is to play out the season with the Knicks. The tough thing for Olshey is whether to hang around hoping that happens or look for other trade moves to potentially improve and balance the roster and cut costs.

Other takeaways that might have gone unnoticed that Lowe said: This might be a play by Morey to show to CP that he's trying his hardest to land his guy Melo to try to retain Paul next summer. But they don't want to tradeaway Gordon/Ariza/Capela, so Knicks aren't that willing to just let Melo go for crap contracts.

I agree. The beauty of Nurk is that he's bought in 100%. Plus the chip on his shoulder helps. ;)

If Melo doesn't want to be here, or only comes here as the lesser of two evils, then do NOT trade for him we don't want him fucking up our team chemistry.

I think he wants to build more value with trade pieces and wait until the deadline to do any salary dump...selling low on 10 million or 18 million dollar players isn't the smartest thing to do....if Crabbe or Leonard make any showing of improvement...we'll get more bang for our buck in a trade...we don't really have cap space to be players in the trade market since the draft
