This all says we're going to get a true 6 man to replace Crabbe that will be more of a spark plug...it might be someone completely off the radar...or it might be Gordon. There was some talent at summer league that would be available really cheap

    We got cap space back.

    Of that much I'm sure.

I don't see us using the TPE if we're over the LT, or its partial use (even) would put us over.

I do not want Eric Gordon. It's a successful year for him if he plays more than 60 games. He's too injury prone and has too much of an injury history to be relied upon in the playoffs.

When was the last time a team was able to use a tpe of 10m+?

If they use it, they don't have to use it all at once.

I'm wondering if he'll even start in N.J. It wouldn't make sense for them to pay him $18.5 million a year to come off the bench, but right now, their starting backcourt looks like Jeremy Lin and D'Angelo Russell. Maybe they will trade Jeremy Lin and move Russel to PG and start Crabbe next to him.

They seem to already be well stocked at guys comparable to Crabbe at SF (DeMarre Carroll, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Caris LaVert, etc.) who are all much better suited to guarding starting SFs than Crabbe is.

Probably very rarely or never. Not very often that a TPE that big is generated even. It just happened this time because the Nets were so far below the cap.

I'm just wondering. Because off the top of my head I don't remember teams benefiting much at all from TPEs.

I know what people think of JR Smith. But, what do you think of him when put in context with Gordon and/or Anderson? Would you rather have Smith and not give up anything to get him, or would you rather have Gordon/Anderson but have to give up Harkless to get them?

JR without Lebron to keep him in check is a negative in my mind.

The Cavs got a $9.6M TPE from the Blazers for Verejao.

Personally, I'm assuming they're doing this to use the TPE as part of the Melo deal. As in, Crabbe to Brooklyn would have been part of a 4-team deal involving us, NY, and HOU, but since multi-team deals require each involved team interact with all of the others in some way, by splitting this into two separate deals bu creating and then subsequently using the TPE, it eliminates the need for HOU and BRK to exchange anything.

I'm asking when a TPE was used, not generated.

Oh Lordy, you are the LAST person on this forum that gets to say "I told you so" on this one. You were touting how matching Crabbe was good because we "retained an asset". And what did we get in return? 2.7 mil in dead space for the next 7 years.

We basically had to bribe Brooklyn to take him, whereas we'd be in a better position if we had not matched in the first place.

He played more minutes last season than Crabbe did.

As far as relying on someone in the playoffs, did you forget Crabbe's 5.5 ppg on .231 3FH%, PER = 3.7 performance against GSW?

Not saying Gordon is THE answer, but hes way, way better than Crabbe will ever be. In addition to scoring, he can also handle the ball, create for himself and create for others.

I don't think a Houston deal is going to happen. If it does I'll eat crow, but if Anderson is coming back...ugh.

I don't think there is some magic plan in place with this deal. The incentive was pretty obvious, they fixed their lux tax issue in the short run. Gain some flexibility to make some moves if opportunities present themselves. I don't see this as some sort of precursor to another deal.

You asked "was able to use..."

The Cavs were able to use it, whether they did or not.

EDIT: The Cavs did use $5.2M of that to acquire Kyle Korver.
