So I broke my ankle yesterday stupidly jumping in water (from a boat) thinking it was at least 4-5 feet deep until I fell in and realized it was more like 1-2 feet. Thought it was a severe sprain but went and got xrays done which confirmed a small break. I bought a walking boot that i can sort of move around in (to note that this is only 24 hours post injury)

Anyways, the big problem is I'm going to Europe on Monday for 3 weeks! I hope to be seen by an Ortho doctor on Monday if anyone will see me so short notice.

Has anyone had this happen and want to talk me off a ledge? Been pretty down the last day and upset with myself.

That sucks, especially since you're leaving for Europe.

Good news is that you'll get to go to the front of more lines with crutches and can use it as a get out of waiting in long lines card! Hopefully it heals well...have fun in Europe!

Yes I have. I was in a cast and on crutches for a month. Then switched to a walking boot for a couple weeks. I was working construction and fell off a sub roof onto the only patch of concrete on the whole site. Got lucky though my boss was about to put a sawhorse right where I fell. Better my foot then my balls. Anyway walking around Europe, without crutches, depending on the break is going to suck. Wish you well man.

My worst break was when I was nine. My cousin Johnna had a crush on the neighbor. She asked me to bring him a note for her. (This was before social media became big) He was on the other side of the fence talking to his friends. I said ok and instead of walking down the fence and going through the gate, I climbed the fence, hopped over. My shirt got caught in the fence. I pulled it out and was no longer holding on to anything. I fell backwards and my elbow landed on a rock and dislocated coming completely around to the opposite side of my arm.

    Nah. Go ahead and jump....

Just kidding! Seriously, I have done the same exact thing. Didn't break my ankle, but I did land right on my ass, on sharp rocks. Luckily, I had on an old school 1/4" thick wet suit. (saved my ass.... Lol).

Europe is very non-friendly for these devices due to the cobbled stone streets, tiny elevators and other factors. We took around my uncle and his wheelchair in Italy all over but we had a private driver to drop us off everywhere. Venice was hard because we had to carry him up and down bridges.

Make sure you get assistance at every airport.

Dang! You got that right. About 2 days and you get the cobble hobble. Italy especially.

Try to find a bike to rent. I broke my foot twice skateboarding when i was younger and would just cruise my bike around town to keep off the foot.

Actually physically doing really well. Doesnt hurt unless i try to walk with my boot. I have a ton of mental/emotional pain given how much i had invested in this trip.

I landed between two mattresses doing the High jump in high school, I did not just break my ankle, I shattered it, was in a cast for almost a year.

It was a long time ago and does not sound like there is any connection to what happened to you, so, sorry to have wasted your time.

If you can put weight on your leg already in a walking boot, you will likely be fine, I broke my foot last year, once they got me in a boot, I could do almost anything pretty quickly.

But make sure you can do that before you go do crazy stuff, ankles are not as easy as feet

I crossed over my six year old son in our driveway pretty good the other day. I think that counts.

I had an avulsion fracture. It was really painful for the first few days. I just needed a walking boot. The timing sucks. I would talk to doctor about the clot thing above. They might suggest compression socks or something, or say it is fine.
