What if it's a sign-and-trade, we get Melo, they get Harkless and Neil?

Makes sense. Phil Jax is available for Portland to sign to replace Olshey.

Excuse me. I have to go and stick some needles into my eyeball to mask the pain that you've given me.

He can only be traded by himself - not with other players. Learn the game, than bot.

Who would we start at SF if we traded Cash considerations? This should be a breakout year for them.

Sounds like the Knicks are trying to make Melo feel like his time next season will suck, hoping it will cause him to waive his NTC, and open up better deals for the Knicks franchise. If he expands his NTC list past Houston then you've got to think we should be up there as a possible destination.

I had assumed you simply omitted the obviously implied "I'd rather you" that would have preceded "learn the game than bot", since that sentiment is common to all of us.

NBA trade rumors: Knicks exec hinting at Carmelo Anthony exit?

    By Joe Giglio

    jgiglio@njadvancemedia.com,

    NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Are the Knicks trying to tell us something?

In a blog post for MSG.com, Knicks president Steve Mills wrote about the upcoming season and team's future.

Among the names included in Mills' vision for the team and where the franchise could be heading: Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., Willy Hernangomez and Frank Ntilikina.

One name absent from the entire post: Carmelo Anthony.

As the calendar gets set to flip to September, the Knicks and Anthony are in a stalemate. While the completion of a Kyrie Irving blockbuster between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers could potentially open a door for Anthony to accept a deal to Cleveland, it's not expected.

If the Knicks don't want Anthony and Anthony wants out, there's an inevitability to this dance at some point between now and the 2018 NBA trade deadline. But unless the team wants an awkward training camp and preseason in the presence of young players, something needs to change fast.

That could mean Anthony waiving his no-trade clause for, say, the New Orleans Pelicans or Portland Trail Blazers. Or it could be the Knicks accepting any offer the Houston Rockets--Anthony's preferred destination--make between now and opening night in October.

NBA insiders believe the Knicks could let Carmelo Anthony walk away during the 2017-18 season.

Mills ended his post by foreshadowing what could be a difficult move for the team president.

This is a seductive city. Everybody wants to be the one to do it, to fix it all, but none of us are in it for the attention. We are not looking for celebrity. We are not fame hunters. We just want to pour ourselves into the process, one step at a time, and see the result.

This thread is a perfect microcosm of the Melo situation: regurgitate, rinse, and repeat.

But it's never quite as clean after each regurgitation.

    I sure hope not...

NBA rumors: Knicks, Carmelo Anthony heading toward midseason buyout?

    By Joe Giglio

    jgiglio@njadvancemedia.com,

    NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

If NBA insiders are correct about how the Carmelo Anthony trade saga ends, the Knicks could send a difference-making star into the fray of free agency during the 2017-18 season.

With no traction on a possible deal to move Anthony out of New York, there seems to be a real chance that the Knicks take the scoring forward into training camp. That would set up an awkward season at Madison Square Garden.

While an in-season trade to teams like the Rockets or Cavaliers is possible, another option could loom for the Knicks: Buying out Anthony with an agreement for cost savings on the cap in the 2018-19 season.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, NBA insiders believe that route is definitely possible.

Nevertheless, if the Knicks can't find a deal by the trade deadline in February and are out of the playoff race, some NBA insiders feel the club could be willing to buy Anthony out if they receive a substantial savings. That would include making Anthony forgo his 2018-19 option year.

Although buying Anthony out would take away from getting anything--players or picks--back in a deal, guaranteeing Anthony's $27.9M cap hit disappearing from the books in 2018-19 could be a win for New York. It also could be better than taking back a longer-term contract like the three years, $60M owed to Houston's Ryan Anderson.

With Kyrie Irving out of Cleveland, the roadmap to a Carmelo Anthony to the Cavaliers trade is back.

If Anthony is bought out, he would be free to sign with any team during the season for the league minimum--with the Knicks paying the bulk of his salary.
