    HCP and his rookie hazing:

Now this is where I'm probably going to piss some of you off...

Yes, I wish @HCP wouldn't give new members a bad time. I have talked to him about it but let's be honest, it's at worst only teasing. He's not insulting them and more importantly it's more of a welcome then many of you give to new members.

Here's how I see it happening.

    New member posts something.

HCP says yadda yadda yadda... Hey rookie... yadda yadda yadda.

Then a few people make multiple posts bitching about HCP and says he's chasing away new members.

Yet no one is replying to the new member or welcoming them.

Instead of worrying that HCP is chasing people away doesn't it make more sense to just take a moment or two and welcome them? A new member isn't going to care about 1 post calling them a rookie when there are 10 posts welcoming them here, IMO.

I thought the OT forum was the place for fun. Every main forum thread just looks BOOOOORING. Guess I've been missing out.

Constructive ideas? Just keep following the same rules as always. Once Nurk is averaging a near quadruple double this forum will be hopping.

I suggest writing some software that any time something that needs obvious editing and/or deleting, as soon as the adjustment is made the original posts always shows in original form to original poster, edited material on everyone elses. no one sees the job you are doing or is aware of the edit. true big brother powers of persuasion.

And speaking of the Off Topic forum...

Now I'm seeing complaints about the subject matter posted there and the resulting arguments.

It's called OFF TOPIC. Let me say that again, it's called OFF TOPIC.

If you don't like the topics being posted in the off topic section then post some topics you do you like or want to discuss.

I try to do that. I try to post things that have nothing to do with politics. I strongly suggest many of you do the same.

I think I mentioned that there's some stigma with folks about the ignore function....I'd encourage folks to use it...it's why I didn't ever want to be a mod around here...I was thinking that yahoo used to have a like and dislike function...if enough people disliked a post....it went away...in some cases that would be useful...the other you already do which is encourage humor.....it always works for me with HCP ....one thing I've noticed is some forum members are starting to talk about who likes someone's post, which to me is not a healthy thing....I like a post because I want to like it....not because I dislike someone who doesn't. Liking someone's post shouldn't lump you into some clique but it's starting to seem like that's happened here. I don't know Sly...human nature and all it's flaws.

I bitch a lot about the double standard that exists here, but Sly and the rest of mods do a great job that is so thankless.

    So thank you

My only wish would be consistency between mods. Either have no rules, or rules everyone has to follow with strict penalties

In my personal opinion fuck the ignore button. If you can't control yourself not to react or overreact to what someone has posted then the problem is with you and not what they posted.

But if that is what it takes for some of you to not get so upset then please, please use it.

My personal opinion is don't ignore the "little button" when fucking.

Wait...that's a little too personal, right?

That's not why I use it....it's so I don't have to listen to stuff I don't want to listen to....especially at game time...it's not about control, it's about choice and experience...I think that's a way different slant on it's use. I read the forum when not logged on and you see everything....so far, I'm glad I've used it. Two folks I only use it on for game threads....it's a filter...

I leave the mods alone to do this their own way with the hope that it leads to better ways to promote healthy and fun discussion in the forum. I don't want the mods trying to be junior poker dogs. I don't expect them to edit posts so the insults are now directed at them instead of who they were originally aimed it. Also I want them to feel comfortable in what they are doing and the decisions they are making. Trust me, wading into the middle of some the on here BS is not easy.

WWSPDD (What Would SlyPokerDog Do) will and should never be a standard for moderation here.

But yes, I wish our staff would do more here so I would have to do less, lol.

You have this thread, a fantasy football thread and a Lamoron Ball thread at the top of the page right now. That shit will rot your brain. It isn't your moderators.

It is the content. This is like boring TMZ.
