There will actually be some rain coming up by the end of this week. Not a lot, but hopefully enough to knock it back. Also a switch to west winds by Thursday, which will allow it to burn back in over itself and cease spreading. The worst should definitely be over by Thursday.
I'm just hoping the beauty of some of our gems are preserved. I feel like that's just being naive though I'm so depressed over this...
I was always grateful for the rain our area gets because of how beautiful it makes our land... I have no family in danger or anything, and I still feel pained to the core...
Coming from a country that is well used to bushfires, my thoughts are with you, and your loved ones. Please stay safe, get out, and get out early. You don't want to be stuck on the road when the fire passes. Property, and vegetation can be replaced, lives can't. Due to a warm, wet winter here (thus lots of undergrowth/fuel), we are expecting a terrible bushfire season this summer.
Yeah man. Could be worse. I'm pissed. I've lived in Troutdale and East County my entire life (other than Corvallis while going to school). I have my bags packed and am waiting to hear the word. That's terrifying. It would suck seeing my house burn. But insurance will build me one back up. The saddest part is seeing the town possibly torn up.
Fuck some of the people in this area man..... wtf? http://www.oregonlive.com/wildfires...s_of_dollars_of_equipm.html#incart_river_home
This might be helpful afterwards... If it's on TED it's probably legit: https://fellowsblog.ted.com/how-to-grow-a-forest-really-really-fast-d27df202ba09 The scale at which regrowth would have to occur is enormous. But I would dedicate money to this process, and dedicate time to weeding and helping it become self-sustainable. Really just trying to find a way to not be devastated by this.
@Cippy91 I know you are in Gresham. My father just texted me. recommended evacuation starts at 257th and Stark in Gresham. This thing is moving WAY fast. MY father is on 165th.
Yeah kinda trippy how fast it moved. I'm kind of out by boring so I'm fine but the air quality sucks. I think Troutdale will be fine, I think they are just being cautious. Sad though man, all those great trails 20 minutes away just destroyed. MHCC is like 6 minutes from me and even they are at the edge of the level one. It's just a shitty situation, that gorge area is what makes this part of Oregon so great and now that shits just gone man
I know nothing of Kate brown but listening to her speak at the briefing, she sounds like a real bitch. She says they have access to super tankers but obviously because of the smoke, not much they can do. I just don't know why this fire wasn't jumped n more quickly. When it started I remember watching it live thinking it would be huge if they couldn't control it. Why couldn't they bring in the super tankers then? It's just all bad
It's gonna be really sad looking at pics of these places we love when it's over. Those east winds really screwed us.
If we'd just blown up the Columbia river bridges like I've advised, this would not have happened. barfo
Here we go with the divisive bullshit over a kid who could've been from anywhere. I know it's a joke, but why the fuck are you joking about this? I live in Vancouver, and I'm devastated by this. When I saw the kid was from Vancouver, it sucked because I know a lot of Oregonians are going to act poorly towards those from across the river and it's going to be decisive and pointless.
