Yeah but you have to integrate it into the game in a foolproof manner if you're going to have realtime judgment calls made by robo-refs.
Exactly. With all the stats available now-a-days, they should find the distance for 3pt shooting that equals the same extrapolated scoring output as the average 2-pointer. Say 1.5 feet behind the 3pt line was a 33.5% average.. Extend it 1.5 feet, and widen the court 1.5 feet.
Cameras are also keeping track of the time a player has the ball in his hands and the number of dribbles they take.
Keep the 3pt shot, get rid of the 2pt shot. Inside the 3pt line is only for rebounding. Also there should be a 4' wide alligator-filled moat at halfcourt that you have to jump over. barfo
And they help refs when? When the game is stopped and everyone is waiting for the game to start again....
I'd do a one-time big change in court size to prevent it from affecting stadiums every year, but then have that three point line creep out over time. I do also like what someone else mentioned about not cutting off the circle and just getting rid of corner threes, but then Aminu would be even worse for us.
Just add programing to the existing cameras and have them keep track of it now unofficially for a full season. Then have someone watch games and compare the results. If the cameras are doing it automatically with a 90% success rate then present it to the rules committee for further testing during summer league.
@dviss1 What if a player who is running towards the basket jumps right before the swish3 line but shoots a floater from around the free throw line?
Is there ever time when play stops that the refs review if a shot to see if it was a 2pt or 3pt shot and then make an adjustment if they were originally wrong? I think that might just happen from time to time. Hmmmm....
No, wouldn't be fair to white people since they can't jump. But it would be easy to program cameras to tell the difference between white people and black people if we wanted to have separate rules.
It's not about where you land, it's about where you take off. If you could dunk from 3 it would be worth 3.
This all seems to be an overreaction to the Warriors current dominance. Do we really want to make changes to the game that result in more missed shots? Because that's what we're talking about here, decreasing league wide 3FG% to match the comparable 2FG%. As a fan, I don't think watching guys miss more shots will improve my enjoyment of the game. I think it would increase the strategic element of the game to have two balls in play at all times instead of one. barfo
That would finally give a point to the whole middle part of the court. Alternatively, just switch the hoops to what are now the sides of the courts. Voila - now the court is super wide and you don't lose any seats! Plus no wasteland in the middle of the court.
Keep the 3pt shot. Widen and lengthen the court. Raise the basket a foot. The players have grown in size and are faster and stronger. The dimensions of the court and height of the basket really need to be adjusted to match. Raising the basket would absolutely bring back the post up game. The 3pt shot keeps it so the 5’9” guys can still play and make a difference. (They should similarly make the NFL fields wider/longer, too).
