We don't even look at the menu. We just ask for obscure chinese vegetables, ask what the steamed fish special is, etc.
My wife and I do dim sum at Ocean City several times a month (Ocean City has arguably some of the best dim sum in PDX......but we also recognize that PDX isn’t exactly San Francisco when it comes to dim sum). We get treated like genuine insiders (albeit pasty white insiders.....I don’t speak Chinese, so they could be having one helluva a good laugh at our expense for all we know) at Ocean City, probably because we’re regulars.....and we tip very well. The latter is something the Chinese are NOT noted for. So I suspect that helps. Just saying.....
will prob end up at Jin Wah in Beaverton sometime over the weekend. Either that or Chinatown on Walker and Murray. Dim Sum not too bad for the burbs
Anything over 10% is tipping well for chinese restaurants. They actually respect you more the more rude and the less you tip at these spots. Like never say please or thank you when you ask for something. if you need something, you stand up and clap your hands to get the attention of the hostess. #themoreyouknow
I ate here several years ago. http://www.442soccerbar.com/food.php I've seen other Balkan restaurants in Portland, but haven't tried any others yet. I don't remember what I had but I liked it.
There isn't a whole lot in Portland, to be honest. Travnik is the best that I've had. It is simple, but tasty. I had some classic cevapi that did not disappoint. And of course, there is 2 Brothers Cafe on 39th and Belmont.
To be fair this is a basketball forum. Bugatti's in West Linn Ringside Melting Pot Castagna and my personal favorite Aviary But then i look for decent places to eat.
I haven't seen anyone vote for the Purple Octopus place... I can't remember the name of the restaurant though.
My wife has been to kascka twice, she's never raved about it. She said there was some straight up fat mixed with stuff and a lot of pickled stuff. I think she enjoyed it though.
I went to Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik for my honeymoon. The Bosnian restaurant in Dubrovnik was my favorite food in the trip I believe. Some kind of meat in pastry roll with a cream sauce... Wow that sounds sexual!
