Why are people so anxious to get rid of Ed Davis??

I'm really sick of seeing trade scenarios that involve him. Y'all are crazy. Right now IMO he's our best big. He knows his role, he does EVERY BIT of our dirty work.

    Please stop.

That's a whole lot of money owed to Batum over the next 3 seasons, for someone who isn't that big an upgrade over Turner at the 3 for us. Acquisition cost is low enough, but the thought of paying over 40 million on Turner and Batum is gag inducing.

Silly post. You should ask @Blazer4ever that question.

Ed Davis is our Best big right now.

I wanted to include Turner in the deal, I just don't see the other team interested.

Yes and Harkless is our best small forward and Swanigan is our best power forward.

You were the same kind of irrational with Moe before the season. Anytime his name was mentioned you flew in and called everyone stupid for even suggesting trading him.

And you keep mentioning Davis' "dirty work" but Vonleh does the same stuff, and more.

And I haven't even gotten into his contractual status which will make it very unlikely he's here next year. But I guess I'm just crazy.

He actually does. Very good team defender. Been like that since Real Madrid.

Dude WTF are you talking about? Make stuff up much?

I was on the Harkless train at the beginning of the season saying this should be a breakout season for him. That was months ago. His "play" this season has me firmly in the trade him camp.

I never said Swanigan was our best PF. Just literally never said that. As a matter of fact I JUST said Ed was our best big.. Vonleh absolutely DOES NOT offensive rebound like Ed nor does he hustle like Ed either. Nobody on the team does.

And you SHOULD get into his contractual status because Vonleh is in a worse boat there. I'd rather trade Vonleh than pay him. I think he'll make more on the open market.

Don't agree with that. Batum >>>> Turner.
I do agree that the combined salaries are gag inducing though.

And why do you think that is? Because he’s a better long term player. So why wouldn’t WE pay him? The only keepers we have in the front court are Nurk, Collins, and Vonleh. The only thing Davis does better than Vonleh is rebound, but it’s so minimal (Davis averages less than one more offensive rebound per 36.) Vonleh brings more to the table. He’s a more versatile defender and a better shooter. Davis is who he is. Vonleh isn’t done developing. Davis is also an unrestricted free agent, so while you may think he wants to stay, the uncertainty must be factored.

Barnes is an interesting, albeit expensive, name off of that link.

I'd love Barnes. I don't know what our best offer would be. We'd also have to match salaries.

Maybe Moe, Leonard, Swanigan, and a protected first? Actually I could see them wanting Vonleh, so maybe Moe, Leonard, Vonleh, and a second? I don't want to trade Noah, but for someone like Barnes, I would.

Why ask me the question if you're gonna answer it? :dunno:

Fine, I'll take a stab at it:

Because he's younger and has more upside. He can handle the ball and shoot. Has a solid base to his game when it comes to....

    POTENTIAL....

Kinda common sense as to why he would command a higher salary.

Ok so why wouldn't you prefer that?

Davis belongs on a contender. Not a team still building, and right now, that's what we are.

So I guess the question is:

Is the team--either as currently constructed, or as constituted post-trade--better served banking on potential for the future, or retaining players that are better in the moment?

This isn't a player-evaluation argument; it's pretty well consensus that Davis is presently the better player. It's a philosophical argument--is Vonleh or Davis more likely to contribute to making the team a contender down the road. Personally, I err on the side of potential in that question.

I'm simply thinking Vonleh will cost more. Pretty simple.

Edit: I also think Vonleh will command more in a trade.

Ed is still young and a hard working rough rider. He's a veteran who will come in and play his role. Plus I'd like to see what Swanigan can do as the backup.
