Man, that is pure stupidity. I would love my wife to make more than me. She actually has more education than me, maybe she should.
How much you make is your business, its so weird when my friends start talking about how much they make and compare.
My mom just retired from 25 years of medical transcription.....I asked her how much the most she ever made was and I was horrified. 45 grand or so.
My fiancée and I have a goal of starting our own winery. We both have advantages in different areas. Both went to EV (Wine) school but she is far superior in the actual cellar and has the better pallet. I have a business degree, science background and I work in Wine chemistry. She is about to take a shitter job for more money then I make but it will help towards our combined goals. I will stay in the lab because it will help our goals. 3 years from now we will be selling our wine and in 5 years we will have small high-end Winery. If I was petty about pay it would hinder our chances of success as a couple. I could make more but it wouldn’t serve either of us.
I mean depending on where you live, $45k can take you far if you are frugal. Some people don't make a lot but they are rich based on their lifestyle and how they save and invest.
Im frugal as fuck and ive never passed 40k a year. Bought my house right as the crash was ending and now it's worth 50% more than what i paid. Smart investing and sometimes a little luck is all you need.
She bought a house she will sell and downsize and make a few bucks. I just know how hard she worked all those years for little income.
Timing fucked me a little bit. Bought a house in Henderson in 09 for 232 that sold for 430 a few years earlier. That was stretching our budget at the time. I only made 50 grand give or take back then and the wife about 40. If we made what we make now I would have bought a better house in that neighborhood for 250 or 260 on a 15 year fixed and we'd be half way through paying it off already.
The smart play is to shop at Uniqlo and buy neutral colored basics in multiple quantities when they go on sale. Basically wear similar stuff every day.
