This is one big post to try to justify some contract he may get. If the season ended Thursday I wouldn’t want Portland to offer some big contract to him. You offer a reasonable amount and if you can get him back at a decent price take it and see if he gets better since he is only 23. He’s not worth big money though. Not at all at this point. You might as well throw Javale McGee in there starting for Portland and you could get the same production and presence in the paint defensively
I have a bad feeling about Nurk, it's not really rational, but it's there. I would try to pump him up and once he plays a good stretch, trade him.
McCollum is paid triple what he should be. My favorite part of Nurkic' game last season was the nifty little inside passes. Remember them? Brainy-boy Stotts saw the nice assist stat, so now he has Nurkic stand outside and attempt stupid long assists which fail.
This describes several Stotts players. They are told to play faster than they are capable of. The Stotts system is all flash and no substance.
Oh man this guy sucks he’s lazy and turnover prone He also bitches a lot for somebody as weak as he is
Nurkic is 14 of 45 since the Denver Game. That's 31% for a Center. Let that sink it. And honestly, I don't believe in this "He's young and have Upside" bullshit. Imo this is the real Nurkic we gonna see most of his Career. I can’t believe how many stupid decisions he makes every game.
We need a big man coach. Jeez his finishing around the basket is fucking terrible. Last game he showed what a force he can be when he puts both parts of his game together. But he NEEDS better instruction.
He's had many more bad games this year compared to last year but there have also been a lot of games this year where he has been hot and for some reason we would go away from him, typically because one of our guards decides to pay hero ball in the fourth quarter and throw away our good ball movement.
I have a new idea for coaching Nurk. In practice hook up the PA system to a recording of Bill Walton shouting "Throw it DOWN big man" and have somebody mash the play button every single fucking time he throws up sloppy limp-wristed bullshit. He reminds me of a broken-down Sabonis out there, except that Nurk actually has a little vertical to work with and is 23, so he has no excuse. Nobody is stopping him from dunking except himself. He is only 23, though, and he's already an excellent interior defender. He just completely controls the interior on the defensive end. But the offense--man, I don't want to see another post-up play run for him this year. Just pick and rolls, over and over.
I am still pretty shocked we haven't at all tried going with a Nurk/Vonleh/Chief starting front court. Just throw out there our best defenders/rebounders and see what happens. It's really annoying that Stotts has refused to try this pretty obvious combination.
"Maurice Harkless is only 22". 2 years later he is a worse player. Denver fans tried to warn us. Said he was lazy. Sure seems lazy around the rim. I am off the Nurk bandwagon and have been for a bit now. He just isn't who we thought he is. Yeah he is only 23 but there is no excuse for how many shots he has missed around the rim for a damn center. Without dame his FG percentage has been even worse since Dame is so great in the pick and roll and finding nurk.
unfortunately for Nurk the "beast" has left the building and the "bad boys" means making bad passing and shooting decisions, I have not given up on him but he needs some serious coaching and I would not hesitate to trade him in the right deal
