That's fucked up. The coaches and parents that allowed that are shit. Part of being a teenager is doing dumb things, part of being a parent is making sure those dumb things aren't offensive and harmful.

Or, they need to be taught that there are consequences. If you do something stupid, it could impact your life. Today, they're just out some money from entering a basketball league. Tomorrow, they could be out of their job and trying to pay a mortgage and other bills because they thought they were being funny.
