Why the hell aren't your senators holding town hall meetings?? A prominent Republican senator just started sending cease-and-desist letters to constituents As the Republican Party has turned further and further from even pretending to represent their voters’ interests and devoting themselves wholly to their puppetmasters in the plutocracy, their efforts to dismiss and ignore the constituents they ostensibly represent grow more shameless by the day. Republicans en masse have refused to hold town hall meetings, called the police on protestors, and even literally run with their tails between their legs to avoid talking to their angry voters. But Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has taken avoidance to a whole new level. According to some voters who got in touch with the Ozark Indivisible activist group, his office has begun issuing “cease-and-desist” letters to voters trying to get in contact with him and asking him to listen to them and not to the lobbyists on K-Street. The Arkansas Times has reached out to Cotton’s office and has not received any comment on his attempts to “block” his voters from reaching him with their opposition to his behavior. I received a letter from the office of U.S. Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas after calling and expressing my grave concerns over his actions and support of this administration’s agenda concerning a wide variety of subjects from the attack on our healthcare, DACA and immigration issues, to national security, to the rise of white nationalist fascism, to the environment, the gutting of our State Department, the attack on the free press…and similar deeply troubling actions & motives I’ve seen Senator Cotton support & condone. It was odd to receive this letter as I’ve called other Members of Congress to express my strong thoughts and opinions about their actions and thought this to be not only my duty as an American citizen but my First Amendment right granted all U.S. citizens by our U.S. Constitution, the foundation of our Democracy. I believe if Tom Cotton’s office were to respond as to why they sent this letter, I think they just honestly don’t want to listen to any citizen’s opposing view or hear the numerous grave concerns U.S. citizens have about the serious & ongoing attack on our Democracy and past election cycle in which a foreign, hostile Russian government interfered, they don’t want U.S. citizens to call and speak their mind and truth in a very direct manner and they obviously don’t want to be held accountable for their words and actions while serving all the people in this nation. I may have used unprofessional and unbecoming language at times as the anxiety and stress of what I’m witnessing is at times too great a burden to control and I have vehemently expressed my righteous anger at Senator Cotton’s complicitness with this harmful regime. Nothing demonstrates more clearly that the Republican Party has entirely discarded the American people than by calling on the instruments of state-sanctioned violence to defend themselves from the consequences of their plutocratic agenda and their callous disregard for the well-being of the common people.
I wish I COULD tell you why you read that and assume so many things you have no real knowledge of. I really wish that I could. Here's part I found interesting... I may have used unprofessional and unbecoming language at times as the anxiety and stress of what I’m witnessing is at times too great a burden to control and I have vehemently expressed my righteous anger at Senator Cotton’s complicitness with this harmful regime.
Certainly, but that doesn't mean these emotional psychos can call and scream profanity at me just because I'm an old asshole
So much fake news. 1 letter, to a vulgar psycho apparently on the verge of violence, to please back off or we will notify the proper authorities so nobody gets killed by you.
So they're not running away from town hall meetings? https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...-meeting-after-huge-turnout-from-constituents
I'm not a Democrat so.... But let me ask you, am I supposed believe that all Republicans are corrupt? I don't and since we both know that's a silly notion, why should you think all Democrats are? That's weird. But I can name one who's not and who you conservatives need to be afraid of... Kamala Harris. Watch out. She just might be your President one day.
Personally I don't think Senator Harris would ever get elected to President due solely to her political positions. I absolutely believe ypu if you say she isn't corrupt (I sure have no evidence or hearsay otherwise, and marrying into VC money has to help with campaigning cleanly). I also absolutely believe that if the Ds couldn't get behind Bernie, who was far-left "Give Free Stuff" populist and therefore would've gotten some broad popular support, I don't think Senator Harris's far left ideological stances (strict gun control, no death penalty even when ms13 members kill multiple people, retributive targeting of the Planned Parenthood whistleblowers, etc)--to say nothing of how hard it must be in our racist and misogynistic society I keep being told that we are to vote for a non-white non-old non-male--are ripe for nationwide appeal. Governor of CA, maybe? Sure. Presidential contender? Doubtful
I was just playing. Some dipshit Republican avoiding town hall isn't representative of all Republicans any more than the one Democrat is for them. I'm gonna be interested to see a Harris win. I'm getting old enough to just get to be a spectator.
To say the dems didn't get behind Bernie is fallacy. We turned out. The DNC screwed him and chose the woman over the old white guy (I voted for the old white guy). Also, if you paid attention to the Democratic primary, you'd notice Bernie pulling Hillary farther and farther left, adopting many of his policies. But watch out for Kamala. They said the same things you said about Barack.
Mis-speak by me...the DNC didn't get behind Bernie, was what I meant to say. You're right that a good amount of people did. As for Obama, I think he was elected partially because he was an unknown. What policies did he fight for as a senator? We can look back on his record on, say, Supreme Court nominees and the like and know now that he's really progressive, but he wasn't running on his policies. He ran on "Hope" and "Change". He ran very successfully on it, b/c there was a recession and 2 wars that weren't going super-great going on. Change hoping for better was en vogue. And conversely, much of the R base wasn't stoked about voting for "Maverick" McCain. I don't think that a majority of Americans are sitting around today going "damn, my life sucks right now and the world is going to hell...I don't care who it is, just change it up". And if they were, I don't think the things Senator Harris has been fighting for for the last decade or so of her public record are the things people really care about getting changed. Maybe that changes by 2020. Cyncially, I think the population is trending toward a Bernie-type of movement...more free stuff, even if it means higher taxes, more isolationist, etc...and that if he was 10 years younger would have a way better shot. But anything right now is complete and utter speculation on my part, so it's basically an HCP record projection.
She has failed in everything she has been trusted with, so don't hold your breath. https://pubsecrets.wordpress.com/tag/kamala-harris/ https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entr...prosecuting-steve_us_5980d18ee4b09d231a518205 https://www.courthousenews.com/judge-unlikely-dismiss-hospitals-claim-kamala-harris/ http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/s...rnia-attorney-general-conduct/article/2622157
Oops. Boy is my face red. Well, not really, but I am reminded that I should read the thread before commenting.
