Not saying I agree with the trade, just pointing what's possible. Getting that BRK pick from CLE, plus unloading Meyers and getting under the luxury tax would at least get Neil's attention.

Undersized SGs who are good shooters, good dribblers, and bad defenders are always available late in the first round. And they only make a couple million per year, not 26M.

As I've said since the first game I saw him in Summer League, McCollum is no Lillard. For years you adored him; I said big deal.

The key to unraveling Olshey's financial mess isn't just dumping Turner, Leonard, or previously Crabbe. It's dumping McCollum, for free if necessary.

Here are the top 20 guards (by PPG) drafted in the bottom of the first (#20 and lower) in the last ten years. Yeah, no, none of these guys are on CJs level, except maybe Thomas but he’s a PG.

I don't need to look at your list to know that you're wrong. You say that it's not true that 2 guards per year (=20/2) are drafted late in the 1st or the 2nd, who can do what McCollum does. Even Napier can do what McCollum does, plus be an excellent passing PG, plus not be a butterfingers losing the ball a third of his possessions, plus lead the team in steals, plus not have a contrite jerky attitude, plus not make $26M per year.

Geoege Hill being an excellent defender and good off the ball is a huge stretch. If you haven’t seen him play this year just take a look at his advance stats, it’s uh... not pretty.

I read somewhere recently that he’s regressed defensively since his toe injury last year.

His advanced defensive metrics this year are worse than CJ’s. He’s been really bad. Which is why I think it’s hillarious the Cavs want him so bad, he’s likely only going to make them worse.

He was great in UTA last year. I think his current performance has as much to do with the quality of his teammates as any fall off in his skill set. He's shooting .448 3FG% and even if he isn't a great defender he is WAY better than Calderon/Rose/Thomas. Seriously, those are three of the worst defending PGs in the league. Hill would be a serious upgrade defensively, over those three.

Obviously, CLE wants him bad. They wouldn't be hot to add another $20 million per year contract to their roster if they weren't.

I’ll give you he’s a better defender than those three but that’s an extremely low bar, and the sad reality of how bad the Cavs defense is. If you watch him play it’s not just that he’s on a bad team, he looks like he’s either playing with a serious injury or just completely fell off this year. It could be that he just isn’t giving the same effort in Sacramento but it’s hard to just turn it on especially when getting acclimated to a new team. Either way, that’s the Cavs problem not ours.

Okay I ran my own list and I'll concede that the number of guards drafted beginning at #20 who Stotts would make as effective as McCollum is...
1 per year, not a couple per year as I roughly guessed.

    http://bkref.com/tiny/DTv3j

My point remains...it's easy to replace McCollum. There are a lot of good SGs, especially who Stotts would make look good, and even if there aren't, we could pick up a forward who can shoot. McCollum is destroying our financial picture at $26M per year.

It is their problem, but one we should try to work to our advantage. Forget Kevin Love for now. If there is some way we can get involved, unload a bad contract (Meyers or Mo) and get under the tax threshold, we should be all over that.

Wow, the Clippers must REALLY want that BRK pick. I just can't see how Kevin Love and Blake Griffin work next to each other. They basically have two PFs and no center now. Seems like a lot of redundancy there.

Does this mean they are blowing it up and Griffin is the next one out the door?

I agree. I get the feeling Neil is going to try and get his fingers in a lot of pies (as my dad would say) in the coming weeks.
